Back nearly 20 yrs ago I built this Strat-shaped
Hum-Sing-Hum gtr. I put EMGs in because...well, because it
was the 80s and EMGs were IN. Over the yrs I grew to really
dislike this gtr because it was so honky sounding. I
figured it was the PUPs, so recently I pulled the EMGs and
put in some 70s Dimarzio PAFs I wasn't using (nothing in the
middle position for now), and low and behold, the thing's
still honky. I guess that's just the way this gtr wants to
sound. (I think the body is ash.)

Anyway, I'd like to find some PUPs to compliment this
guitar--it plays nice, and it's got a Schecter whammy on it,
which, though it never caught on, is quite a nice
system--but I'm at a loss. I'm hoping for some educated
suggestions. TIA.

I would try Lindy Fralin. If that didn't work, I'd put the crappiest
pickups of the bunch back in it and trade or sell it. I have had to do
that with poplar/basswood bodied guitars, they just didn't sound right
no matter what I put in them. Not that there is anything wrong with
poplar or basswood, just those guitars weren't that great sounding.
And I meant crappiest in the nicest way.

Look at Tom Anderson Guitars site. IMO Anderson makes the best super
strat and teles around. I have one of his humbuckers in a Carvin
strat, and couldn't be happier. He makes a pretty wide range of
humbuckers and singles. Good luck

There is no such thing as a super strat or super tele. There is
strats, and there is teles, and there is everything else. Mr. Anderson
makes nice copies of strats and teles. Most of the Fedners I've owned
in my life have all been super.
