"Pros only". That keeps a lot of future talented amateurs at bay,
doesn't it? You must be a boring covers band.
I just needed to vent.

Could it be that "pros only" merely meant "only those with professional
attitudes need apply"? Maybe, and maybe not.

Or it could mean that they aren't a "boring" cover band, but actually a
pretty good band with a good repertoire wanting only musicians who can
thrive in that sort of environment. I can conceive of a situation where
they invited their old drummer to leave because he was dragging the
energy of the band down on the covers that bored him. Been there, done
that. Or they may have had a really good drummer who had to leave for
other reasons and now they don't want to settly for a hack.
The possibilities are endless. The "venting" displayed was a bit of an
overreaction, IMO.

Maybe.. but when I look at all the ads for 'band members wanted' in
the music stores around Phoenix usually 'Pro' means 'must have x years
experience in playing clubs etc'.
What the hell is a professional anyway? One pro may kick another
pro's ass musically, and to the superior pro that other pro is an
'amateur'. Labels are stupid.
Personally I find certain labels useful. In all of the local music rags
their are ads from 14 year kids who just started playing to those who
have gone on world tours (I've met a few, so I'm sure). The word pro is
at minimum usually used to indicate that the band or player has gig
experience and knowledgeable in the form of music they will be playing.
The word "pro" is just one way to indicate a certain characteristic
about a band or player in an otherwise emotionless ad.

I could use a non-pro drummer in Boston, if you're up for jamming....
Read on....
I'm a singer/rythm guitar, 25, all original material, seeking Bass &
Drums... looking initially for jamming situation, relaxed, as acoustic
as possible(I have a muffled drum set at my house), no commitments, no
"auditions". Just looking for the right people; noise and logistics
come later. You definitly don't need to be a pro; I'm not. I'm not
looking for an instant band, and I don't have gigs lined up. You just
need to enjoy playing, dig my music, and be willing to work at
developing.
My voice/style a little like Tom Petty but sexier, my rhythms like Beck,
with sad stories like Jewel's(but not so sappy), and melodies +
harmonies influenced by Nirvana and Alice in Chains. But this is just
an attempt to describe via email.
I have harmonies for all my songs; if you like to sing, that's cool.
Even though my stuff ranges from folk to alt. rock, it always comes out
a little funky, so I'm looking for a rhythm section to bring that
out.
Don't hesitate to drop me an email.

"Professional" means they want money. Has nothing to do with quality.

A few times I have gotten email with the following quote in the sig
file.
"Professional means you get paid for it, it doesn't mean your any
good."
Seems like alot of truth in that.

It doesn't necessarily mean he's a pro, just that he's got some
motivation.

What's that got to do with the price of eggs in China?
Say, just what *is* the price on eggs in China these days anyways?!?
Eh?

It's matter of a recording contract and using computers to fix the vocals
track for the singers. Let me know if you need an off-key singer who sings
in a British accent. Of course, before making the demo CD of any band,
you'll have to send the vocals track to Nashville's computer geeks. :)
