Who wrote the song "Apache"?

I'd like to know who wrote the song "Apache", an famous (I think) song from the
sixties something. And, is the tab available through OLGA? If not, I'd like to
request it here also.

I thought the Ventures did a version of this, but not sure if they did

It's played by the Shadows, a 3 guitar band from the UK, which made a lot
good guitar stuff for that time. They also played as the band of Cliff

Written by Jerry Lordan, who also wrote some of the Shadows' other hits,
notably "Wonderful Land".

ObTrivia: Bert Weedon also had a minor hit with "Apache" - not a lot of
people know that. :-)

If it's an instrumental tune, it's by the Ventures. If it's not an
instrumental, then I don't know who did it.

Last time I looked, there were only one or two Ventures TAB's on OLGA,
and this was not one of them.

I get the Michael Caine reference... ;-)

But "Apache" was originally done by Jorgen Ingemann, who wrote it. It
was later covered by the Shadows, The Ventures, Red Knuckles and the
Trailblazers, and my band ;-)

I have no idea if it is available through OLGA but it was recorded by
Jorgan Ingman (sp?). One of the early examples of multi-track recording.

English group the Shadows has a version of it, I don't know who did it
first, Shadows or Ventures or somebody else.

Hmm. We'll have to agree to disagree on that for the time being. I'll
check tonight. I have a vague recollection of reading a Shadows biog when
I was an impressionable teenager, and in it they described their meeting
with Lordan and how he demo'd Apache on an old acoustic guitar. He may even
have unsuccessfully released a version of it himself. Either way, somebody's
telling porkies.

There's a song called "Apache" on the Southern Death Cult album- Ian
(The Cult) Astbury's first band. Dunno if it's the same song though...

I checked my old vinyl last night, and it's definitely Lordan who gets the
composer's credit. The Shadows' recording dates from 1960 - when did
Ingemann's version appear? Someone else mentioned that it was an early
example of multi-track recording, which would put it back in the Les Paul era,
a decade earlier. Doesn't seem likely. Of course, there may be 2 different
tunes involved. The one I know goes something like this -

I think it was written by Jet Harris, one time member of The Shadows, but I
think he'd left them before they charted with it.

Jorgen Ingemann is basically a jazz guitarist and a really good one at that
but he has done a lot of covers as well. Apache is one of them. You should
listen to some of the early Svend Asmussen records to get a glimpse of what
Ingemann is capable of.

Jorgen Ingman from Copenhagen Denmark shot to number two in 1961 with
this instumental recreating the sounds of an Indian battle. Written by
Jerry Lordan. Numerous other bands of the time released their versions
with including the Ventures. Unfortunately I dont have the TAB but the
sheet music is available in Best of the 50's & 60's Guitar Edition
Published by the Goodman group. Email me and I'll fax a copy if you can't
find the book.

I think APACHE was written by the Ventures, I know they recorded and it
appears on their greatest hits album
