"Satellite" from Under the Table and Dreaming
Dave Matthews Band

Tabs: John Wells <jow...@vt.edu>
Lyrics: cma...@idi.oclc.org

The main riff is in 12/5 meter (two groups of three sandwiching 3
groups of two). Slap your capo on the first fret and play this
intro/main riff:

(0 = 1 without capo)

e |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
B |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
G |-----2-|---0-|-----|-----|-------|
D |---0---|-----|---4-|---2-|---0---| <repeat>
A |-------|-3---|-2---|-0---|-3---2-|
E |-3-----|-----|-----|-----|-------|

There is other guitar stuff going on, especially in the beginning when
Dave is playing that riff. I hope that stuff is from another guitar
or is overdubbed, or else Dave is more than God. There are alot of 5s
and 4s on the top string. The riff right before he starts singing is:

5/7
e |-----5-|-^-3-|-2-5-|---5-|-5-3-2-|
B |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
G |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
D |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
A |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|
E |-------|-----|-----|-----|-------|

For the chorus, it's difficult to tell exactly what chords he is
playing, but the progression is:

G C Am D

The bridge is something like:
G Asus (000220) C D

(riff)
satellite in my eyes
like a diamond in the sky
how I wonder
(riff)
satellite strung from the moon
and the world your balloon
peeping tom for the mother station

(chorus)
G C Am D
winter's cold, spring erases
and the calm away by the storm is chasin
everything good needs replacing.
look up, look down, all around, hey satellite

(riff)
satellite headlines read
someone's secrets you've seen
eyes and ears have been
(riff)
satellite dish in my yard
tell me more tell me more
who's the king of your satellite castle

(chorus)

(bridge)
G Asus (000220) C D
rest high above the clouds no restriction
television we bounce 'round the world and while
I spend these hours five senses reeling
I laugh about this weatherman's satellite eyes

(verse 1)
(chorus)
(bridge)
(riff)

Let's try this: No capo, like such:

--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
--------------------------------------------------
------8---6---5-------6---------------------------
----6---4---------8-4-----------------------------
--4---------8---6-------8-------------------------

Too much of a stretch? Tough. That's how it's played. Also, I count 12 notes
in the riff, which would lend itself to 12/8 time. The emphasis notes
(Bb Ab G F Ab) occur at funny places in the triplet, so that's why it sounds
so weird.

Later,

Dave

Opinions are my own, duh.

Sorry guys - I messed up here. The Asus is 002200, not 000220.

Your rendition of satellite needs to be corrected in that the chords a
1/2 step flat, and thus the tab is as well.

You call that a stretch??? I use that on my bass to warm up :)
Speaking of that though, does anyone know a site that has DMB bass tab?
I know chords for several of the songs, and can kind of fake a bass part,
but it doesn't sound nearly as cool as the one that they play. Stefan
just plays some kick ass bass parts.
