Before I spend travel time to check one out I thought I'd fish for
impressions: what you like/dislike, what kinda stuff sounded good on
it, that sort of thing.
This would be a late 40's model I think.

TIA,
dB

I have a 30's L-50 which AFAIK is a close relation to the L-48. It's a nice
light guitar with a deep V neck. The tone is very much centered in the mid
range (no lows/highs). These guitars are usually pretty cheap. I slapped a
DeArmond floater on mine and used it quite a bit. It sounded great
amplified.

My first guitar was a Gibson L48. I believe the L48's have lamenated tops
and the L50's have solid tops. The neck was a bit clubby on the L48 I had
but the guitar was really nice for acoustic rhythm playing...very nice...
the original tuners were lacking...In my opinion, you get a lot of guitar
for what you pay for due to their lack of popularity. (bluegrassers are
starting to turn to swing jams in droves and are starting to pick up these
archtops).
