Yeah, I use these shapes...I was studying Cliffs of Dover for awhile. Hes got
such a smooth phrasing and his strat tone is amazing. Check out the Wolf
Marshall Eric Johnson book if you havent already.
Its called "Eric Johnson Signature Licks" and you can probably find it off
amazon. Its got a lot of his songs and solos in it plus an in depth study on
his scales, pick technique and devices. Its a great book if you want to study
his style.

Your chart is sideways! I had to look at it for a few minutes to
figure out what's going on. Eric's not sweeping his pentatonic scales.
Get Frank Gambale's first book. It has sweep fingerings for all the
pentatonic scales. His stuff is very close to what you've got but
that's not how Eric Johnson plays his pentatonic scales. Eric's
typically using a hybrid fingering which includes 3 notes per string
and he's using hammer-ons or pull-offs depending on whether the line
is ascending or descending. I use that technique quite a bit which you
can hear on the clips on my audio file page.

Just curious adamlong4, do you have any good urls with good
teaching info via Eric Johnson? I haven't followed him in years
but he use to play 'quite nicely' the only thing that makes me so
jealous of him is: the sucker never ages! :( I think he must have
a painting hanging in his attic..lol :) Anyway, any Urls?
