It took me a while to remember but I do recall having a string snap at the
ball end a while back.

So what's a good alternative to the D'addario EJ21 nickel wound set. (Jazz
Light 12 16 24w 32 42 52)

I've never had a problem with Thomastiks. They're pricey, but they
really do last a long time. By the time you cobble several sets of
D'Addarios together to get one usable set, the price is the same!
Swings are flat, Bebops are round. I've used LaBellas in the past, but
had a problem w/ the ball-end coming off....at least they provide
extra e&b strings for when that happens...

I have been using John Pearse pure nickel round wounds in 11 to 50 and
12 to 52 for many years and have never ever had any problem with
them. They seem to cost just a little more than the D'Addarios most
places. Recently, after reading a glowing review in Tone Quest Report
I tried a set of Pyramid Classics pure nickel round wound 11 to 50
which are wound on round instead of hex wire core. Although skeptical
of the claims I have to say after a few weeks of use that they are
easily the best sounding strings I have ever played.( and I've tried
just about everything) The overtones seem richer and more extended
than other strings and they feel softer ( almost a gauge lighter )
than the nominal size indicates. The obvious drawback is that they
cost 3 times as much as the others. But they are supposed to last much
longer than strings wound on hex wire. It will take a while to see if
that's true. For anyone wishing to check them out I found them
here: elderly.com//accessories/items/P452.htm

Interesting that you like the wound on round core. I tried the DR Sunrise
set on some of my flattops and never liked them. They advertised them as
having better sustain. I found them to feel rather stiff for the gauge.

I remember back 25 years ago or so when ads talked about the superiority
of using a hex core wire- e.g., improving sustain.

I remember those ads too. Thats why I always looked for hex core
strings. But in spite of that the Pyramids really do sound better and
feel softer to me.

I have tried DR electric strings and always felt that I should like
them because their construction seemed like it must be better bit I
never liked any of them.

I just put my order in for 3 sets of the Thomastik Jazz Bebop Light 12 - 50
set. BB112. I will try them on my Eastman AR805CE archtop.

I now have the Bepob light set on my Eastman archtop. I am trying to
reserve judgement. I like the strings, but do question the unwound 3rd
string in that set. I have never really played strings with an unwound 3rd.

I have been experiencing some fatigue in my left hand and in some chord
positions that hand gets a little shaky. (e.g. chords where you are
reaching over a little more.) eg bar chords or 7th chords (3X343X). I do
not fully understand this but thought a lighter string set would help with
the fatigue. It seemed that left hand problem got worse over recent weeks
after playing one of my flattops more than usual.
