Another amazing player gone, very sad. But what a legacy of music!

It's Maclean who comes in on the first solo after the head in Goodbye
Pork Pie Hat. A line so perfect it's become a cliche. One fine player.

Through my work in the media I was lucky enough to spend a couple of
days working on a news documentary story about Jackie about 15 years
ago. I got to film him performing at the Blue Note as well as interview
him and watch him teaching young kids. He was a gentleman as well as a
great talent and he will be sorely missed. I feel lucky to have had the
chance to spend a little time with him. We should all be so lucky as to
make a contribution to our culture the way Jackie McLean did.

Jackie and his wife have done a tremendous work in the Hartford area to
create opportunites for young (and often underprivledged) kids to learn
jazz. They have given to this community in a lot of wonderful ways,
but adding to the culture and education of our youth has been a
tremendous gift that they have poured themselves into. Jackie has
touched the lives of many of my friends as well (especially the horn
players that I work with) through his work at the University of
Hartford. He will be missed by many.

IAJE has a nice bio for Jackie:

Yes, this is terrible. In the Ken Burns series, he looked like a fit
guy in his early sixties. I thought he'd be around for a long time
still.
