There's a picture of Christian performing in the book Electric Guitars:
An Illustrated History. It almost looks like he's using his thumb and
forefinger to pluck the strings. Does anyone know about Christian's
right hand technique?

According to Barney Kessel,

"Charlie played probably 95% downstrokes, and held a very stiff, big
triangular pick very tightly between his thumb and first finger. He rested
his 2nd, 3rd and 4th fingers on the pick-guard. He anchored them there so
tensely that it was like there almost wasn't a break in the joint. He almost
never used the 4th finger of his left hand."

This is from an old GP article, quoted at Dave Gould's website:

I'd like to hear from Dan on this subject. How about it, Dan?

Thank you for the answer, Bob, and thanks for the link, Tom.  My next question was going to be where to find transcriptions of Christian's solos on the web.  What a great site!  By the way, the photo I was referring to is in the "Gallery" there.  It's the third one from the Waldorf Astoria, Sept. 1939.

You didn't find them on Garry's site? Last time I looked there were lots
of them.

Yes, there are many transcriptions on the site. That's why my next question
WAS going to be where to find them. . . Sorry for the confusion.

He used a stiff triangular pick and played almost all downstrokes, believe
it or not.

I know you hear this all the time, but your Charlie Christian site is about
as good as they get. What an excellent resource! Thanks.
