what is the url?

In my opinion, he was one of the best jazz guitarists of that era. It's a shame
he didn't record more.
Ralph
It's a pretty messed up web site, but they make the claim that Hank
used the Dick Garcia moniker due to contractual obligations. I haven't
seen any recordings by Dick Garcia after 1961, when Hank had his
accident. Again, I gotta say that they sure do sound alike.

Well, if you're searching for Dick Garcia, you probably won't find
much. Have you tried Richard, maybe Ricardo, or perhaps Richard is
his middle name, not his first. I guarantee the Army has him listed
under his full first name & middle name. Dick, Rich, Richey, Rick,
Ricky, etc won't find you anything.

Then what happened to him? He seems to have disappeared. In
Summerfield's book "The Jazz Guitar, it's Players and Personalities" he
mentions that Garcia is still active on the NY studio scene, something
that I find unlikely.

Before you buy.
The Summerfield book was written in the 70s and I think Dick had quit playing
by then.
I left New York in 1969 and I hadn't seen him for about two years.
He used to be interested in Eastern religion and talked about going to India. I
often wondered if that is what happened, but I don't really know. Just have
wondered.
He was at my apartment in Queens more than once. Why are people trying to say
he didn't exist. I can give you a list of (living) guitarists that knew him.
Bucky, Joe Beck, Howard Collins, Jim Hall, Wayne Wright, Mundel Lowe among
others.
The other guitarist that disappeared was Billy Bean. He was in New York in the
about 1967 but was a little screwed up then. Two great jazz players.
Ralph
I know that String Jazz in the UK http://www.musicweb-uk.com has
reissued a coiple of the John Pisano/Billy Bean recordings that have
gotten excellenet reviews.
Cheers,
Ted

I have that and it is very good. Also probably the most overlooked jazz
guitarist is Dennis Budimer. He opted for the Hollywood studios but what a
great player he was (is).
