Great things are happening at the Crow. Last Friday we had a Jazz Guitar
Night with some fabulous players: Peter Hertmans from Belgium, Matern Otten
from The Hague (what a tasteful player), Herbie Guldenaar from Helmond and
eh ... Dutch Dick of course (the privilege of the organizer is he can
associate with all the bad Jazz dudes).
Peter Hertmans teaches guitar at the Brussels Conservatory and as soon as I
have uploaded the tracks from that night you should check him out. What a
bebop monster... I thought I heard it all with that fabulous Jesse van
Ruller but Peter is awesome too. Both his solos and his chordal work is
masterful. He told me he'll be recording with Billy Hart soon and he's going
to work with Maria Schneider on a big band project in August. He has won
some prizes at international Jess festivals in Europe too.
I had not heard Peter earlier and he just blew me away. You guys know him?
Who is Maria Schneider?
Tomorrow tenorist Yuri Honing will be jamming with us at the Crow. My o my.
All these Jazz guys are so cool for coming over to the Crow (our financial
means are so limited) .... Even Hans Dulfer (big in Japan and Candy's
father) and Ferdinand Povel (a Jazz legend over here) have agreed to come
jam with us. Great things are happening at the Crow. There's a lot of love
for the music.
I am grateful. A dream coming true.

<< Who is Maria Schneider? >>
the leader/composer/conductor of a wonderful big band here in the states. ms.
schneider studied under gil evans; she has a very orchestral approach to her
music, and a very creative sense. she has released three albums on enja
records: "evanesence," "coming about," and -- most recently -- "allegresse." i
highly recommend all three. her band features some of the best players in new
york, including guitarist ben monder.
