What is the difference between a Polytone Mini Brute III and a Polytone
Mini Brute IV? Is it only the spring reverb in the MB IV or do they have
different speakers and sound characteristics?
Somebody told me, that the MB III was designed for bass amplification,
but I am looking for the right amp for my archtop guitar. I have already
tried a MB III in a store, but had no chance to test a MB IV yet!

Thanks,
Karl-Heinz

The IV has reverb the III doesn't . that is the main difference. You could
use either one for bass or archtop, however having reverb is often
considered more desireable for archtops. Of interest I also have a V with a
tweeter and a 15" speaker + reverb which we use for everything , including
archtop, acoustic nylon, acoustic and elec.bass and keyboards.

Karl-Heinz,

I have been using a Mini-Brute IV for more than two years now and and that's
the one you want. The III has no reverb and I think that's the only
difference. Since bass players do not use reverb the III is sometimes called
a bass amp but basically the III and IV are the same. By the way, my
Mini-Brute IV has one 15" speaker and I would recommend that

The Mini Brute IV is a great amp, I just plug in and play. Very reliable, no
problems. The tone knobs are are flat usually and I hardly ever use them.
Just a little reverb.

Is yours one of the newer ones or an 80s-era Polytone? It sounds good on the
jam recordings.

Just curious,
