If you check on Harmony Central, you will see that the customer opinions
are all over the map. Looking at a number of his auctions, I have seen
things like seemingly random bridge placement on Raines's archtop
instruments. That's stopped me from bidding on his instruments thus far.
Yeah, I read the Harmony Central stuff and a few reviews seemed a bit
hyped! Also, it didn't seem right when I looked the auction. Thanks!
His playing kind left me thinking it was scam. I was getting sucked in
until watched the video! What tune was he playing or was it a tune? I
don't know but I ain't buying! Thanks!
the tune is called "Bebop" by dizzy gillespie. why you would feel scammed by
his *playing* is beyond me. negative reviews and too much hype i can
understand, but his playing? strange world...

Raines's guitars are made in China, IIRC. Anybody can do this, of
course- send 'em a sketch of what you want, pay 'em and wait for the
container shipment to show up. Then flog 'em on eBay.

The guy in Colorado you are referring to is probably Gary Stroup. His
guitars look crude in the photos but the reviews indicate that they
sound OK and he's apparently a nice guy to do business with. I've never
seen one of Stroup's guitars in person nor heard one.
right, he is not the "builder". that is happening elsewhere. in the
case of the flattop 7 i bought, it was labeled "made in korea".
others are from china.
i guess all that's from china are not eastmans, haha.
