I also hope to add a short biography, photos, a full discography and
descriptions of the transcribed tunes. If anyone cares to contribute
any anecdotes/information regarding Chuck or any of the listed
recordings, I'd be happy to hear from them. I'll be in New York again
during October to catch some gigs, play with a few people and see some
prospective publishers so if you're in the area, let me know and we
can meet up.
I'm buyin"!!! I want a signed copy!!! (By you, not Chuck; that would
be difficult).

Just thought I'd let everyone know that I'm working on a folio of
Chuck Wayne transcriptions. The impetus and financial support for the
project came from all-round great guy and RMMGJ regular, Bryce
Sutherland. Jack Wilkins has also been very helpful and supportive.
Some of you may have seen a couple of my CW transcriptions here and in
Just Jazz Guitar in the past. I've only got a few more to complete for
the book - here's the list of tunes at this stage:
Blue 創 Boogie (with Dizzy Gillespie & Dexter Gordon)
Cotton Top (with George Shearing)
Prospecting (Jazz Guitarist)
Sirod (Jazz Guitarist)
My Baby Just Cares For Me (with Tony Bennett)
Body And Soul (String Fever)
Softly As In A Morning Sunrise (Tapestry)
然ound Midnight (Tapestry)
Lady痴 Love Song (Tapestry)
I've got the three CD bootleg set of Wayne and Puma's gig of Sept.
19,1973 at Ray Carle's Little Club in Roslyn, NY.

This is certainly a worthy undertaking and I wish you the best of luck with
it. Keep us posted. .......joe

Joe,
I transcribed pretty much the entire Morning Mist album about 30 years
ago. I've got it around here somewhere (in sloppy handwriting no doubt).
Have you found Chuck's old student Augustino D'Giorgio? (he's the one
who worked on the method books with Chuck. I haven't seen him since the
90's and I seem to remember that he was moving back to Italy then.
Don't know where he is now.

whereabouts either. .....joe

Thanks James. I'll keep you posted.
Michael.
Yes, I've seen that - an excellent early shot. I've also been in touch
with the guy who owns Chuck's d'Angelico (used on his '50s and 60's
recordings) and he's promised me a photo of the restored instrument.
I'd love to hear that. Email me and and we'll see if we can do a trade.
Thanks Joe.
Rick,
He now lives in Cortina just outside of Rome and is still playing and
recording. I haven't made contact with him yet but I'll be emailing
him in the next week. If you ever get around to excavating your
transcriptions, I'd love to get any scans to compare notes.
I've thought about doing a comping transcription from Bennett's "Cloud
7" but at this stage, I've only transcribed the solo from "My Baby
Just Cares For Me" (partly because it turned up on the still available
box set "Progressions: 100 Years of Jazz Guitar" but also because it's
excellent). So many of the other transcriptions are chord-based
arrangements that I thought some single line examples would be worth
including. Incidentally, for any Bennett fans out there, "Cloud 7" has
recently been released on CD and it's one of TB's best recordings.
Paul,
If you have Augie's contact info, please send it to me. I haven't seen
or heard from him since we played some duo gigs together at the Swing
Street Cafe back around 1995 or 96. We fell out of touch after he moved
back to Italy.

Great project! I'm a buyer! Fly Me To The Moon will be interesting to
see...
You hafta go second!!! I got #1!!!
Rick,
I just checked my list contacts and found that Augie lives in Casino
not Cortina. As it turns out, he's the only person on my list without
an email or phone number attached. He's now working in a quartet with
Michael Jeup so I'll see if he can help out with the details:
Thanks Dan. I've left the two Interactions cuts until now as I'm
slightly daunted by the task. Wish me luck!
Rich Carter already transcribed Wayne's "Fly Me To the Moon" from
"Interactions" in "Jazz Guitar Masterpieces", published in 1978 by PMP.
Cloud 7 features Wayne throughout, as you know, and is available on
emusic.

If anyone wants to contact him please email me and I will give you his
email information.

Van,
I personally would 'not' consider any live recording of Chuck and Joe
as bootleg. I recorded them playing together many times, after getting
permission from both of them on each occasion. They wanted us to have
these precious jewels as artifacts. I put the recorder on the table in
front of them and recorded the sets at Stryker's, since that venue was
quiet and small. CW got a little mad when Mile's Davis stole his Sonny
Berman (drug victim) tune, but he never sued over it. He deserved all
the credit for that tune. In those days, tunes were based on some
changes and thrown out there ad-hoc and named later. Davis used that
defense when Chuck confronted him over it. Davis was right, but not
about CW tunes. CW wrote them out and hand-copied them for sale to
students. Recordings were free of charge, with the stipulation "for
private use only." Your recordings are fine, not illegal, as long as
you're not selling that stuff. It's okay to share/trade among the
community. I will testify to that personally if need be. Everybody was
allowed to record the duo; too bad nobody did. People were too busy
dating, drinking, and talking to even listen to them play. Go figure.
Bryce
Great! Will someone please post this stuff publicly?
