I just have to share this with the world. I've been thinking of how to keep
the pick from spinning and sliding in my fingers. I now have the uberanswer.
I took the smallest drill bit I have and drilled a bunch of holes in the
grip of the pick. It's perfect!

That sounds like a wonderful idea.

IIRC I think some manufacturer's have beaten you to this idea. I remember
seeing a pick somewhere that had holes drilled into it just like you
describe.

I have a few here but of course I have a few 100 different types and

Please don't drill single-handed. It's neither big, nor clever.

Either the pick spins, or the drill does.

Many years ago when I was a sweaty rocker (now I mostly SIT in a rocker,
but that's another story), I started using a bulletin board push-pin to
poke several holes in my Fender medium picks The push-pin method is
MUCH safer than a drill and it creates little burrs on the exit side of
the hole for grip. I poke a few holes from each side for symmetric
friction. This might not be possible for heavy picks though.

Rick,

When I used Fender medium picks, before switching to lignum vitae wooden
picks, I would punch 3 holes in each pick with a conventional hand paper
punch.

It took a few seconds to do, never cracked a medium pick, and produced
holes of sufficient size for the fleshy fingertip to bulge through and
stabilize the pick. Also, the picks would feel very comfortable with
this modification, and they retain the same flex characteristic.

Finally, if someone borrowed a pick, I'd have the amusement of hearing
them say "What the hell is this?" which, incidentally, I am still
enjoying with my wooden picks.

I've had good success with the "brain" picks by snarling dogs (at least they
used to be made by snarling dogs, not sure who's making them now). They're
nylon, with a "cat tongue" grip. Hard to discribe the "cat tongue" grip
(little burrs pointing in various directions), but it really does eliminate
pickspin. They're available in a wide range of guages. I prefer 2.0mm, and
I sand the point down to make it more round.

For a while I wasn't able to find these picks, and thought that snarling
dogs had stopped making them. I found a source (don't recall the website)
recently and stocked up in case they disappear again.
