It's amazing how much mileage he gets out of just one position, and all
downstrokes. I wonder if he even knew any other positions?

I think the strap position helps facilitate putting the guitar behind
your head for when you are really showing off. I've seen a picture of
him playing the guitar behind the head while he is doing the splits.
Typical blues showmanship. All the cats down south in the US do tricks
like this. Hendrix was far from the first. Who knows who T-Bone might
have learned it from?
