I snapped this one up as soon as I saw it, even though it was on
vinyl.
It's another Sackville album with Don Thompson and Terry Clarke,
recorded live in Toronto in 1976.
I didn't even have to listen to it to tell this was a great record.
They only do four tunes on it, but each tune is close to ten minutes
long, so you know Bickert and Thompson are gonna get a lot of blowing
time on it.
They do "Sweet and Lovely", 'Round Midnite" and 2 other tunes on it
and it's classic Bickert all the way.
Anything with Bickert and Thompson is worth buying, except for that
one Thompson plays piano on ("Dance to the Lady").
Rosalino sounds great on trombone, able to play long, fast bebop
lines without sounding forced. Other than Watrous and the guy on the
"Supersax" albums, there were very few players of this caliber.
Unfortunately (to put it mildly!), two years after this LP was cut,
he took his wife and kids out into the desert and blew their brains
out and then shot himself too.

That's been one of my favorites forever.
There is a 2 cd set available, which has the same four
cuts and more from the same session.
I bought it this year and am pretty sure that you can get it
online.
The four cuts on the original are still the highlight for me.

Talking about vinyl, there is an Ed Bickert Trio album available from
CADENCE with Terry Clarke and Don Thompson.
This has never been out on CD.
I bought it when it first came out in the 70's.
They call it "6/75" -
It is a must for Bickert Fans.

There is another LP listed, with Ruby Braff.
Same Ed Bickert trio with Braff instead of Rosolino.

On the Bickert Page a Cadence, an album by Mike Murley
is listed - I've posted about this before. It is also a must have
not just for Bickert, Murley is a great tenor player - great line.

Look for the other one with Ruby Braff. It's just as good
if not better. Some of Ed's most aggressive playing.

Scott-
Is that Bickert trio album the one that they do "Come Rain or Come
Shine" and "It Might as Well Be Spring"?
I've got the Braff album, another good one, and I just picked up
"This Is New" the CD with Lorne Lofsky- another great album.
Lofsky has come a long way from the garbage he used to play with his
Les Paul in the 70s- he almost sounds as good as Bickert on this CD!
On the basis of these two albums, I've got to pick up the session he
did with Sonny Greewich- these fuckin' Canadian dudes are blowing us
Americans away!

I've got that one on LP. Fantastic trio playing. I don't remember
it saying anything about 6/75 though.

Yes that's the album.
Some great playing.
The Sonny Greenwich CD is also a treat.
