The Washburn J6 was slightly less good-sounding acoustically but had of
course 2 pickups.
Not having had the chance to try them out amplified, what 's your opinion on
these two guitars?
I need a good but not-so-expensive jazzbox for upcoming small group and big
band work.
Please give your thoughts about these or likewise guitars
Thanks

If you need 2 pups, then your choice is clear. As a hobbyist for jazz, I almost
never use the bridge pup on any of my archtops, except for arpeggiated type of
chords and when I want a more sparkly sound. But you can also change the tone on
a single pup archtop, as I'm sure you know, by picking farther back towards the
bridge.

Either would work fine. The J6 costs more new. I've seen the Epi ZR's at $469.
If it makes any dif, didn't Duke Robbilard sorta endorse the Epi ZR? I think the
ZR is cooler looking and as I recall it is lighter than the J6. I also like the
ES-175/165 look like the ZR sports. But you can't go wrong with the J6 either.

Which Bartolini pickup did you use? Did it require drilling any new
holes? I have a Regent and I'm thinking about changing the pickup, I'd
like to know more about what you went through. TIA.

the model was, acording to my local shop, the only one that mounted on the
end of the fingerboard, almost an exact replacement - it improved the sound
immensely! Go to mp3.com, search for Mike Cassells , and you'll hear the
guitar on some of his stuff . The original pup was so bad you could sing
into the pickup, and your voice would come through the amp!!!

When I got my Epiphone Emperor Regent, almost the first thing I did
was to wax-pot the pickup, it made a big difference. Now I can rap on
the pickup and hear nothing.
I have gotten a very sweet tone out of it with a high-fidelity
solid-state stereo amp, the treble turned all the way down and a flat
preamp. Not so good on my Gallien-Kruger 112SC, I haven't figured out
how to get a really clean tone from that amp.

I want to get a big bodied jazz guitar like one of these. I'm attracted to the
Epiphone Emperor Regent cause it has a real spruce top (it is solid isn't it).
I'm an acoustic fingerstyle player, but took jazz lessons for 4 years. Both my
acoustics have 1.75" width at the nut, and all these Jazz guitars seem to be
1.68", and my left hand just says, too close. Also space at the bridge needs to
be ~ 2.1" to match my favorite Tacoma Acoustic. Also need 25.5" string length.
The problem is that the manufactures information seems to not include this
information. Anyone know where I can find this info, or have a suggestion of a
guitar that matches my requirements.
I know that the feel of each guitar is different, but I want to minimize
alienation.
Thanks
Rocky
The new ones? I seriously doubt they are solid. "Select spruce" is
a euphemism commonly used for laminate tops, a ploy by marketers
to trick people into thinking they're getting a solid top. Be
careful.

Your right, select spruce, well that beats laminated maple, lol.
