Yes: Help > Garageband Help provides an opportunity to type in
"metronome". It pulls up a few items. The first states this:
To change the metronome settings:
To turn the metronome on or off, choose Control > Metronome while the
project is stopped.
To set the metronome to play a one-measure count-in before recording
starts, choose Control > Count In.
To change when the metronome plays, choose GarageBand > Preferences,
click General, then click either “During recording” or “During playback
and recording.
Does that help? There is other subject matter available when you type
in "metronome". For instance under keyboard shortcuts (which comes up
if you search help for metronome") there is Ctl-U for toggling the
metronome.
I didn't know you were using a Mac.

Useful to know that it's in the helpfile, which is actually pretty readable.

Thanks, Gerry! It's amazing what you can put together in a few minutes
with Garage Band.

True! During the Christmas weekend, just to test out the mechanism I
used iWeb, Garageband, iMovie and dotmac to produce a PhotoCast, a
podcast (with voice, music, pictures, SFX, etc.), a new website,
produced two videos of my mother-in-law (titles, intercutting
still-shots, live action, etc.) for the kinfolk.
And published it all on dotmac Bing, bang, boom. Everyone was very
impressed, but not so much as me!
