That's too cool! I want to see more!
How can you not love this guy! He is as honest, real, unaffected as a
human as he was as a guitar player. I thought it really kind that he
mentioned Chuck Wayne too. They live as a triumvirate of sorts for me
in guitar. Preceeded by Oscar Moore and Barney Kessel, both of which
had an indelible relationship to the previous prevailing style of
guitar. and of course I love all five of these guys.
I've heard about that building on 93rd street building before. Does
anybody know the cross street?

I know that the address of the aparment building that Jimmy, Tal, Sal
et al lived in c 1949 was 312 West 93rd St
Looking at Google Maps for that address shows the cross street as West
End Avenue

Many thanks. It's on my official tourist's map now.
Wow! How many people, in ANY walk of life, are that innovative, that
widely known and respected, yet so down-to-earth about it??? Neither
fake humility nor pomposity. Wow. Thanks, Jon, and I like your own
work, too.
Thanks for the link. ...joe

Not too many. Although being widely known is a bit of a stretch.
Perhaps the advent of the internet has helped his reputation. Not
sure. But anyway, for me I talked with him alot during these years
(when the video was made) and really miss him. I figured people
should know the man and the music. Very rare person indeed and very
influential to me on both fronts
re: my work. Thanks for compliment

If you had seen the crowd waiting to get in when he first came back to
the Jazz Showcase after being away from Chicago for a long, long time
(this was in the 80's, I can't remember the year) the line was around
the block, and Joe Segal had to actually shut up and work crowd
control!! Still, OK, maybe not widely known, but widely respected.
Tal's wife, Michele, often comes to Jack Wilkins' weekly gig at "Bella
Luna" in NYC and she told him he sounds like Jack Wilkins too. I guess
it runs in the family...
Does this show Jimmy using Benson picking? Should we call it Raney
picking from now on?
I handn't noticed that Tal and Jimmy both chose "Autumn in NY" for the
Guitar Show spot:

Coincidence? I think not! :-)
Hey, IMHO it's quite a compliment to be told you sound like Jack
Wilkins- even if you are Jack Wilkins. ;-)
Curious. I guess since my thumb doesn't bend back that way, my skills
on guitar will always be somewhat limited.
