I think I have seen a jazz guitar player who used an old Ampeg amp connected
to a 15" speaker. He had a very very good jazzy tone. I don't know if that
amp was modified.

Are there any guitar amps from Ampeg on the market today?? Can some of the
bass amps be used as dedicated guitar amps too??

Hope you can help me with this topic. Thanx

Ampeg is now made/marketed by St Louis Music along with Crate amps. I've got a
feeling that the amp you saw was vintage. Vintage Ampegs are relatively cheap
compared to Fenders.

Ampeg amps (old ones) are great so long as they are at least 100 watts.
The SVT used for bass is a very good guitar amp but VeRRRRRRRRY heavy.
The biggest problem is that they use odd tubes which are hard to find and
expensive.

Actually, good quality 6L6s can be subbed for the old 7027As without any
modification. The amps are heavy, though. The new ampeg SS combo is much
lighter, and is very well received by bass players.

I have a V4B; great for bass. Haven't gotten a guitar tone I like out of
it yet, but I'm still experimenting.

I have a vt22 (100 w, 2x12) that I had converted to 6l6s. It weighs a
ton and sounds a lot like a twin. I prefer Fender preamps though. It
can do the warm clean thing loud.
