The fingerboard radius on Gibson
guitars is usually 12 inches.

The shape of the back of the
neck, termed 'profile', may vary.

Neck specs on 'special order' instruments
from Gibson's Custom Shop are per
customer's preference.

Thanks...

Did you mean all 175s or ?

I'm very sure the radius on my Gibson L-50, @ 1952 is not 12...it's
very round and insanely great for comping chords.

Is there a "trick" to measuring so i can check?

I think any gibson post 1957 has the 12" radius.

Before I got my radius gauges from Stew Mac, I used a cardboard
template, made from drawing a 12" radius circle using a pencil and heavy
thread. Got me close enough to check.

That's likely accurate info,
Jack is a veritable 'gear-head'. ;)

Tho, an exception was the
Les Paul DC 'Pro', which
has a compound radius.

As a repairman I have radius gages and they do tell interesting stories. You
use the gage and it eliminates all the guessing because sometimes they are
not all the same. Funny thing is that a fingerboard can have small
discrepancies but they are taken care of in the the fret dressing. Then of
course you could have a fingerboard that is fine but the frets are not filed
correct. I never touch a guitar to work on the neck without running a radius
gage all over and everywhere.

Paul Reed Smith guitars seem to have the best quality control of all the
guitars I work on they manage to get those fingerboards pretty tight to
standards. Gibson L5's for the most part are pretty good they get them
correct it is usually another issue that comes with that causes problems.
Most of the CNC stuff is pretty well done but don't take my radius
gage--------leave it right on the bench.
