Dear friends,
I am looking for a transcription of the main changes and melody for the
song "Spain" hmmm... is it written by Chic Corea?
I don't know...

If you know where I can buy a transcription or where there might be
something about it on the web...

I'm not having a lot of luck finding anything... I wouldn't mind finding
some good old Return To Forever transcriptions if anyone knows where one
could find such thing, please do tell...

I guess I could just sit down with the recording and do it the old fashioned
way...

LOL!

I don't know if it's still available, but there used to be a superb book of
Chick's own arrangements for solo piano of the Return To Forever numbers
(Spain, 500 Miles High, You're Everything etc.). I can't find my copy at
present, so I can't tell you the title or publisher. The title may have
been just "Chick Corea" or "Chick Corea for Piano".

I think i got it from there. I had a biab version that gave me a good jolt of
recollection on the original arrangement, too.

I found that for me for solo fingerstyle it plays much more easily and sounds
fatter a whole step down no sharps no flats - the open strings are really
useful.

Hi Keith,
I have my copy and the title is just "Chick Corea"
published by Warner Bros publications published in 1976
and surely out print for a number of years.
In 1978, the also released Chick Corea vol 2
which is also great.

You might fing these out of print books
at your local library.
As for newer books which include Spain,
I suggest you go at chickcorea.com.

24/7/365 to reach such a plateau! Amazing and a sound very close to my
heart.... wow! I just love the sound of wood! You're style is such an
inspiration to me... I'm speechless...

really enjoyed what I heard at your website!
That kind of stuff is right up my alley...

Domo Oregato Mr. Rubato!
LOL! YES! That'll do! I have a Real Book, (What self-respecting Jazz
Guitar student could live without one.) Yeah, but no copy of Spain in there.
It's a Fifth edition i got when I was at GIT back in 1980. I thought for
sure I had it but Wherever I looked it wasn't turning up. Yeah this will
work fine... good enough.

THANKS so much!

Spain is in my Real Book somewhere after the Z's IIRC.

Clif,
Right on and thanks for the tip on the optimal key to play it in on the
guitar! That's cool that you had it for BIAB. Any telling where I might look
to find something like that? I found some BIAB archives but none so far with
Spain in them. A BIAB version of Spain would be ideal for me. I could build
my own Return to Digital Forever experience... HAHAHA!

When I tried to goolge Spain, whew man, I got so many different things
back. It's a pretty broad term...

And I did go to Chic's website....

I said, " Heyyyyy, Chiccie-baby! Howz it going? It's cool! It grooovey!
It's chiccie-baby!"

But I didn't find anything directly pointing to Spain other than interviews
on a new version he performs as he revisits the theme in concert.
There was a nice link that led to the ECM Records website with a webstore
that sold all the great old Return To Forever discs and a lot of the really
great chic, we all know and love.

RON!!!
You dawg you! You're absolutely right! I "thought" I had a copy of Spain
somewhere! I forgot about the additional songs they placed at the end out of
alphabetical order. Yep, it is the same one I see online there too... That's
great! I really appreciate that!

Thanks so much for pointing this out to me, Ron!

ss'right under my nose!

Wow.. and to think I've owned my copy of the 5th edition for going on 18
years and I didn't realize it had "Spain" in the appendix! However,
there is a curious note on the lead sheet saying this is from "Concerto
de Aranjuez" by Rodrigo... oops!
I wonder what the relibility of the transcription is. Looks like it
would be rgeat for 2 guitars.

Hi, Vin -

I still have it - shoot me an email and I'll attach the .mgu to the reply.>.

I could build
>my own Return to Digital Forever experience... HAHAHA!

Careful, or you may get caught in the "Captain Senor Mouse" trap - I've been
working on a medley of that and LaFiesta for about a year, but I'm finally
gettin' it! I don't think it will be much longer.

Then maybe I'll finally get to hear the hallowed words, 'just what the hail
was THat supposta be?'

I have always loved Chick's music, and I've kind of made a project of doing a
few of his tunes I really liked. I have the following that I'm closing in on
solo fingerstyle:

Captain Marvel
Senor Mouse/LaFiesta
Litha
Spain
500 Miles High (ok on that one)

I'm maybe at about 80% on the first three, which I've almost never heard a band
play and never heard done solo on guitar - just what I need..more obscure
tunes! Oh well, it's a labor of love.

Man, Chick wrings the HELL out of common identities of chords in 'overlapping'
progressions. It's all over the place in these tunes. I love the way he does
that on improv too, but I don't get to hear him all that much - just when KUVO
feels like it.

Thanks for confirming the title. Should be obtainable secondhand: I saw a
copy on http://dogbert.abebooks.com/abe/BookSearch.

Man, this is great!
I have never had so much fun in my life re-learning a song!

I love that Loop feature in BinaB!

It's almost comical with a song like Spain!

It's hilarious how the note being played turns red and you can follow the
music visually...

I wish they made studio charts that did this...

HAHAHA!
