Newsgroups are overrun with dealers

These newsgroups are overrun with dealers. They have inventory to clear so
they bite the heads off anyone who critisizes their merchandise, post phoney
testimonials, and then constantly advertise their dealership. It's the
equivalent of SPAM, except that it's dealers promoting their brands and
merchandise.

Example Thread#1:
Newbie - does anybody know anything about ACME guitars?
Fake testimonial - ACME guitars are cool, they sound real nice, I just bought
a couple from this cool dealer ...
Dealer - we have dozens of ACME guitars ready for you to check out, just
check our website ...

Example Thread#2:
Critic - these ACME guitars had some sloppy workmanship and finish problems,
has anyone else had these problems?
Fake testimonial - I have a dozen ACME guitars and they're all perfect in
every way, ACME guitars are cool, they sound real nice, I just bought a couple
from this cool dealer ...
Fake testimonial#2 - ACME guitars are cool, anyone who tells you otherwise is
a complete idiot moron with mental problems, they sound real nice, I just
bought a couple from this cool dealer ...
Dealer - that dealer you bought it from must have messed it up, we have
dozens of ACME guitars ready for you to check out, just check our website ...

Example Thread#3:
Skeptic - ACME claims to make guitars exactly to the same standards as their
1950's and 1960's guitars, but I've noticed that there are a lot of
differences in construction, playability, cosmetics, and sound
Fake testimonial - I have a dozen ACME guitars and they're all perfect in
every way, ACME guitars are cool, they sound real nice, I just bought a couple
from this cool dealer ...
Fake testimonial#2 - ACME guitars are cool, anyone who tells you otherwise is

This kind of dealer advertising crap is so obvious and old now. It's almost
as bad as those "get rich quick" spam-scams. These dealers are clogging up
the newsgroups with their same predictable tactics, thwarting legitimate
discussions, and basically lowering the informational value of the internet
newsgroups as a whole. There's really not much point in checking here because
I already know what the threads are going to be about in regards to anything.

They're endorsed by Wile E. Coyote

. . .and what they won't tell you about them on the newsgroup here is
that they usually blow up in your face while playing them. . .and don't
even think of getting caught at the bottom of a cliff under a falling
ACME guitar.

I've played dozens of Acme guitars. They're all wonderful. I'm thinking of
becoming a dealer. Call me to place a deposit. :D

You must be suffering from temporary mental incapacitation. I have 12
Acme guitears and every one of them is perfect. Never had a single
explosion in 85 years of use. Maybe you meant to poast at rec.pyros.alt

ACME guitars are very dangerous, at least the electrics. You have to add
water.

Actually, I heard that Wile dropped his endorsement after
the 10th one or so exploded on him. It's all tied up in
litigation.

Should we add info on ACME guitars to the FAQ? There certainly seems to be
plenty of interest in them. I'll call around to my local stores and see if I
can find one and then I'll post my findings.

I know W.E. Coyote used them on his first album ("Genius"), but didn't El
Kabong use them too?

Well, I for one have no interest in checking out anything to do with Mr. Coyote because of his arrogance. That
Wile E. Coyote - Genius thing; why does he need to go around saying that? Does he really think that increases
his credibility among cartoon characters? I think it's just a stupid self-promotional ploy, and that it
backfired completely on him. If he were truly secure with his abilities he wouldn't need to wear them on his
sleeve, IMHO.

I have a chance to buy a Pre-Fender Acme(Black Pickguard)Roadrunner for
$1500.........
This is the model where they stacked two humbuckers on top of each
other with reverse polarity so they reproduced the noise of a single
coil......
Pros or cons???
Thanks in advance,
Joe Novack

Does anyone have a 'history of the ACME guitar' with the serial
numbers of the exploding models? Were they the one's with the
experimental nitrocellulose laquer?

no..you're talking about the spinoff model..the one with the cosmetological
defects in the wood...inexplicable eruptions through the lacquer..it was
called the ACNE..

I have a mid 70's Ibanez lawsuit Acme... you can't tell the difference from the
original. I believe it is made better too.

No, I think you're wrong. The ACME is one of the few jazz guitars that works
best with a 15 watt tube amp, one of those that "sounds really loud for 15
watts."

Was that the one using the 'antiquing' method, using lighter fuel,
'borrowed' from Jimi Hendrix?

David, congratulations. I count 24 responses on this thread, yours
was the only serious one. We don't want this NG getting a bad name.

BTW, those interested in the subject may like to check out
Woody Acme's new film "Beep and Lowdown".
