Though have seen him live many times, I never bothered to check out his amp.
I found this pic I took a few years ago and finally realized he's playing
his Gibson 125 a Fender Hotrod Deville.

At that concert Joe Cohn was playing his L5 through a Fender Deluxe.

Since Martijn is has such a great sound the Hotrods seem interesting. Here's
the pic:

And here the sound:

I had a Hot Rod Deluxe for a while. It was OK, but I found it a bit
tricky to dial the sound in. I'm told that EL-84s are the wrong tubes
for me. I traded the HR for a 68 Pro Reverb (also gone, now). Great
amp, but slightly flabby on the low end. Good luck on your quest...

I have a HR Deluxe. Nice amp, but too bassy for my taste, with a few strong
low-end resonances that bug me. There are mods to reduce the bass, but
before I tried any of them I bought a Cube 60.

What about Marble amps? They're made in the Nederlands. Probably pricey
though...

Looks like he's playing the same amp in this fantastic video, so it's
apparently really his personal amp, not just a rental. I imagine Joe
Cohn did not lug his amp from the States and borrowed/rented one.
(The airplane could not have taken off in any event with a tube amp on
board.)

Thanks Joe! I have seen MVI with this amp for a few years now but I had no
idea it was a Hotrod Deville, just that it was a Fender.

Well he certainly gets a great sound out of it. He is really amazing
on Stolen Moments from that big band concert.
