In case you haven't seen it, one of the best pop shows of all time, IMO, can be accessed in its entirety:

Marvin Gaye, Supremes and James Brown at the top of their game interleaved with some rather lame pop acts. Beach Boys and Stones aren't bad either.

Tommy Tedesco and Wrecking Crew directed by Jack Nitzsche are heard more than seen but can be glimpsed in the background.

Go directly to 1:17:25 and see James Brown show the world how it's done.

Stick around till 1:35:40 for the Stones. Several of them have acknowledged that possibly the worst mistake they ever made as a band was going on immediately after JB.

Saw it a few years ago and it's an absolute delight--I even like the
lame pop acts, the represent the era quite well.

In article <e3fff4ff-779d-4c2f...@googlegroups.com>,
Agreed, JB shoulda closed the show. The Stones were still in their
formative years then.

Also a damned shame that Smokey blew his voice out during his set....

BTW, just amazing how much of the music is based on a 12-bar blues -
sometimes several tunes in a row.

I was a kid in L.A. just getting into music and remember the TAMI show and everyone talking about the show and a couple friends got to go to the concert. I remember Leon Russell was on piano, used to know more names of the house band but can't remember now. It was a great time and place to grow up and be in music, lots of memories.

That's quite a dislay of terpsichorean bikini talent behind Chuck Berry's left shoulder during Nadine (starting at 15:45).
