Oooh, Thanks for that Larry.
That's just SOO classic Kenny, so tasty, great Tone, doesn't play
anything more than needs to be played.

I gotta go back and hear that again.

Classic Burrell ending on that too.
Sounded like:
Db7#9, Gb13b9, BbMaj7, E13b9, AbMaj7, d13b9, to G.
Basically thru the Cycle but Uses BbMaj7 instead of Bm7b5, and then
again AbMaj7 I.E. Am7b5. First time I hear that done.
Very interesting because Am7b5, and AbMaj7 down in that part of the
neck are the same except for the Bass note.

Could you clarify on that a bit Joey.

Thanks Larry. He's always been my favorite. Been listening to him since
I was a young teen (I'm 51 now) and amazingly, have never seen a clip
of him playing. A very special treat indeed.

thanks for sharing this. Wow, he sounds terrific. I recall this
performance is from the "Clubdate, Live at Elario's" (1980's?)series
that has aired on PBS. Does anyone know if this is yet available on
DVD? I used to have the VHS recording, in which Kenny also played "All
Blues", "Spring Can Really Hang You Up...", "Moon And Sand", and
others. I would love to find a clean copy of this entire session.

I loved KB's playing the first time I heard him 40 years ago. He stays
fresh. Don't know how he does it. I repeat the same licks over and over
again.

beautiful...we should give up the phrase "classic jazz tone" and
replace it with "sounds like Kenny Burrell"

You might notice that the sound that he gets on that L5 is almost identical
to the sound he gets on his 175s. He has said that you just keep messing
with the guitar and amp, whatever they may be, until you hear the sound that
you want.

Ya got that right, and his 175 had P90's compared to the humbuckers on
this one.
By the way the only one of his Guitars that I can cleary identify is
that big D'angelico with the Dearmand Pickup attachment.

I heard him play that one down in Fl once and the only time that I heard the
difference was when he played softly on ballads. Once he turned up that
Kenny Burrell sound was there again. He was playing through a Twin BTW.

I tried a Twin for a while trying to get the KB like sound but
eventually the weight of the amp got to me. I am sure Kenny is using a
cartage service to get his amp to the gig. I guess now he is using his
Heritage model amp. Has any in the group played one?

For the gig that Kenny played back then they provided a Twin for him. That
was the amp of choice at that time for almost every guitarist who played
there including Barney Kessell, Herb Ellis, Charlie Byrd, Bucky Pitzarelli
and Tal Farlow.

When I saw Kenny in Boston in the 90's he was using a Fender Twin. The
kept fiddling around with it with a look of consternation on his face
and eventually they wheeled out a second Twin and took the first one
away. I don't know if he actually carried them around or if they were
provided by the venue as part of his contract.

He flew down for that one (as did the others when they appeared there) and
the amp and rhythm section were provided by the club.

I think KB sounds like KB no matter which guitar he plays. It's in his
hands. Everytime I've seen him, he used a Fender Twin. He also has a
Heritage amp that was voiced for him which is now part of the Heritage amp
line. I've never seen him use the Heritage on a gig except at the NAMM
show. He still had his signature tone using a Heritage guitar and amp.
