we discuss mianly jazz guitar here. but in the overall 'working
guitarist' category I wondered:

Who on this group could handle that gig?
Very diverse, requiring good ears and reading abilities
plus a versitile rig and versitile chops to achieve what's needed.

>From what I've heard there are a few that could handle this gig and do
very well.
Bob Russell is the first to come to mind.
Who else can you think of?

In article <1140686281.3...@o13g2000cwo.googlegroups.com>,
castl...@ev1.net says...
Probably you. You seem like a pretty versatile player. I would think
that anybody who could handle the old Holiday Inn circuit could do it.
Not me -- I'm an arteest! :-)

Hey, thanks for the nod!! I can read okay, but I generally have to
study the sheet a bit so I might not be the right choice. But I did
grow up playing a lot of different styles of music and have a lot of GB
experience. My dad used to always challenge me by playing records and
saying I bet you can't play that. Haha, of course I would have to
prove him wrong, so in retrospect, it was a great scheme on his part.
To this day he remains one of my biggest fans. I still like to play a
wide variety of music even though most of what I do today is jazz,
funk, rock and blues. I have no interest in doing GB work, however if
I were to get laid off from my job at some point, I would consider
getting back into it for the $$$.

Yeah, I noticed that guy on last night's episode. He sounds like a
really good player. Since the singers always perform a truncated
version of the song they sing, someone has to arrange them that way,
work up the charts for the other band members including horns, work out
the harmonies for the back up singers, and rehearse for the week with
each of the candidates. Sounds like a demanding job(s). Certainly
would be a pretty cool gig though.
