John Cage? That's pretty good.
I'll see your John Cage and raise you a James Russell Lowell:
"The foolish and the dead alone never change their opinions"
Opinions are a funny thing because they are a window into your soul. If you
want to find out about someone's character just ask his opinion on
something.
What's this got to do with anything? Why bring it up here? .........joe

Here are some Nietsche quotes that can be applied to music:
The surest way to corrupt a youth is to instruct him to hold in higher
esteem those who think alike than those who think differently.
Out of passions grow opinions; mental sloth lets these rigidify into
convictions.
Convictions are more dangerous enemies of truth than lies.

And seriously, you can't play (or at least not very well) without thinking.

I'd like to try to raise one some day, but not until after the kids are
grown. I probably ought to wait for the cat to die too. :-)
Yikes!
Note to self: never adopt a cockatoo or macaw.

These larger birds do not like small anything around them.. If you
try with one of these 'huge dinosaurs' as a first bird, you'll end up
selling it within months. Anyway there is plenty to chose from but
if you are interested just email me as rmmgj isn't the place for this.
Sorry folks.. thom_j.

okay, here's one of my favorite Goodrick quotes (open your hymnals to page
184);
"the problems that you have in music (and on the guitar) are clearly reflected
in the problems that you have in life (and as a person)."
man, is this one ever true.

Yeah, but he said it backwards.
> Well I hate to admit it but Jack is correct! As I said parrot type
> birds aren't for everyone. :) Jack, I have an M2 and 2 Macaws.
> Now you know why I have to play with my toes.. :)
When I lived in Kenya I had a a friend who owned a HUGE African Grey Parrot.
It was a magnificent bird with a huge vocabulary and an uncanny kind of
intelligence in using it.
But his guitar playing really stunk.

Unless you (a) have too many fingers or (b) have large cats?

Somebody play a rim-shot.
If you have a chance to keep either a psychotic crack whore with a machine gun
or a Nanday Conure at your house, you might want to consider the former.

right. He messed with my wife one too many times and now he's someone else's
conure. The little Sun conures seem cool, but I'm pretty much done with birds,
save the yard variety.

couldn't agree more. See my post on the duck as a musical instrument.
Now there's a concept that needs formulating: Edible instruments for starving

There's a way to mess with their little beaks (birds, not the 'Birds') in a
circle without touching them where they can't bite you. I learned it from
reading Oyama's point and circle stuff a long time ago. Works well and they
look at you differently afterward.

Did you post them as attachment? My newsserver filters attachments i
think. Well, if you follow the second link in my signature, you will find
some pictures of me with my band, at rehearsal in the local irish pub.
If anyone else has pictures he can't post nowhere, i can put them up on
my webserver (it won't be online for long though (max. 3 months).

True, but he went out of his way to write boatloads of aphorisms. Looks
like the shotgun approach to posterity, to me ("If one of these gets
through, I'll have immortality! :-). Still, he had a lot of good stuff, no
denying that.
