This is a 6 string archtop bass guitar made to the same standards that have made Cris Mirabella the premier young luthier of the day. Solid spruce top, maple sides and back, ebony fretboard, tailpiece, and bridge. Built to be PLAYED as well as admired, the tone ,playability ,and performance are superb. Because I am no longer dividing my playing between bass and guitar, I've decided sell or trade for a guitar. If you care to make an offer, please consider that this bass would sell for $8,500 today with a two year wait. I can send detailed pics on request. I live on Long Island, New York. David 516-765-0391 (eves). Here's a video demo. http://youtu.be/qUM1CXSrGPE

This is one of the most unique instruments I've ever seen. Has this type of guitar been attempted by any other luthier or is this the brainchild of Mr. Mirabella?

Are you primarily a guitar player or bass player?

This is the second of two basses built by Cris. Here's a link to photos of the other from his website. http://mirabellaguitars.com/galleries/trap-door-bass/index.php. I gave him free reign as to design but we consulted frequently as he always does for custom orders (no two guitars are the same). Cris has been repairing, restoring, and studying the guitars of D'Angelico and D'Aquisto for many years and he honors their ideals of guitar building even as his own ideas are ever growing. I tune the bass from B to B, an octave and a half below standard guitar tuning which helps me, as a guitar player, to switch between playing bass lines and single line solos. Others would probable prefer to tune it in fourths.
