Hey everyone, just wanted to check with you guys about CD duplication.
There's a good chance I'll be doing about 3 month's of cruise ship work
starting in about 4 weeks. I'm going to need to take large amounts of CDs
with me to sell. Who is giving the best prices on CD duplication these days.
Also, how fast are they able to have them back to you?

Thanks!

Ted: Have a great trip. Cruise ship money is supposedly solid so all I can
say is make your best deal and take it to the bank, man. Enjoy the profits
of your labors upon your return; along with my best wishes.

I'm afraid I don't have any good advice regarding duplication. We bought a
duplicator last year and all our stuff is in house.

Good luck. Stay in touch. ..........joe

I can recommend http://www.frontporchcd.com/

I think every projects duplication phase has hurdles to overcome
(artwork, shipping, licensing and etc.). These guys don't make the
hurdles any more high than they should be. Not sure if they are the
cheapest or fastest, but they are good on customer service.

You might want to do CDR's at home. You can buy labels and CDR's cheap and
print what you need yourself before. If you put them in an envelope instead of
a jewel box, you can cut costs and sell them at a 'can't miss' price, maybe.
CDR's are about thirty cents each, and memorex labels are about thirteen cents
each in lots of 300 from Comp USA. Window envelopes are about six bucks per
hundred

You won't have as pretty a package, but your profit margin would be much
higher, and your audience would be captive. You can get some nice artwork on
just the label, and that might be enough to sell.

Just a thought.

Hey Joe,

Thanks! Yeah, I'm looking forward to it... I love the travel thing and it's
an easy way to book up a lot of weeks of work throughout the year. Skip
turned me on to the case-extreme option for travel cases and that looks
really good. That was my main concern; transporting my baby, but the case
extreme thing has really eased my mind (as much as it can in that regard).

Thanks,

Ted

Hi Michael,

Thanks again for the CD dup information. I also just wanted to add that I
visited your site and really enjoyed listening to the clips of your duo and
the video was cool too! Very nice stuff.

Thanks again,

Ted Vieira

That's a good idea Clif. I might just do that if I run out of time. I can
take supplies and my printer with me and just manufacture what I need each
week. I just don't want to fry out my CD-RW drive. I guess the gift shop on
the cruise ship prefers that you supply enough for the sales of 50 per week.
It will be a great way to move some CDs, eh?

Ted,

I've used Raintree: http://www.raintree.com/

The main advantage with them has been that they will adjust their
price to make any size run you want. So, I've been doing batches of 50
or 100 to avoid too much inventory...

Also, they have these C-shell plastic cases which are more convenient
for mailings than jewel cases.

I've used discmakers on several record projects that I did with good
results especially considering that we are overrseas . My clients feedback
was also positive as DM was spot on with customer care. check them out at
http://www.discmakers.com/
We used the Fremont, Haward, Calif plant.

It'd be my preferred way, but I've always been a cheap sumbicth! I design the
labels I use on my stuff in Excel, where I can group it and make a sizeable
.bmp of whatever I come up with and paste it into the adaptec label program
that comes with hp's. I don't know if you have Excel, but it's a great
publishing program along with all the other miracles it'll work. (I use an
Excel macro I wrote to convert my paypal orders into the product - I just push
a button and it turns the order into a web page table of contents with links to
the material ordered and relays the titles to the label publishing page in a
music font)

Have a great trip and sell bigtime!!

Thank you very much for taking the time to visit the site! I'm at the
tail-end of giving it a well needed update. Hopefully the new pages
wont look so amateurish. I plan to put up some of the music I've
composed for TV also.

I don't think the new pages will look as good as your site does
though! Very professional. The mp3's of your solo stuff inspire me to
record again. I just have a few short acoustic solo examples on the
site, used to get work. And my solo CD is dated sounding to me... new
pieces could be much better...

Joe-
What kind of duplicator did you buy?
Does that brand come in different price ranges and how many can you
crank out in what span of time?
How do you 'quality control' your product?
there seems to be more and more of them out there so I was just
wondering- if you don't mind sharing that info.

Thanks Dan, I like the idea of being able to order smaller runs at a time.

I'll check it out.
