Hello All,

I had a chance today to play a 1979 Gibson Super V, which I liked a
lot. This particular one had a routed pickup in the neck position
only. I guess it has the "Super 400" neck with the L-5CES body and
electronics (apart from having just the one pickup). It's got the
"fingers" tailpiece with the little knobs adjusting string tension.

Anyway, it seemed great to me. Are these guitars (esp. the ones from
the 1979-1981 period) well regarded?

Thanks,

Clyde

I don't know what the general consensus is re: Super Vs, but I think
they're great guitars. I've only seen a few in my lifetime, but they
were beautiful instruments. I really like the concept of combining the
elements of a Super 400 and L5 into a single guitar.

However, instead of buying an exoribitantly-priced Super V, I think I'd
ask the guys at Heritage to make me a similar guitar, instead (like a
Super Eagle with a smaller body and fingerstyle tailpiece). Just an idea
. . .

The Gibson Super V is one of the very best jazz guitars ever made by
Gibson.

Every time I have the chance to play one, I always fall in love with it.

I have read some negative comments regarding later production, but have
not found any of it to be true, IMHO, of course.

They were made with single and double pups, the single being more
desirable, as far as I'm concerned.
