Did you talk to Jeff Hale?
Bg
no. I don't think Jeff even knows with 100% certainty what Rich used.
The only thing I can think of is whether the frequency response values
posted are truly comparable. Sometimes the manufacturers don't use
the same cutoff point (such as 3 db below the peak response). Also,
the frequency response may drop off very suddenly at the high end, or
have a long tail. The frequency response curves might provide a more
informative way to compare them.
true. At least these are all from the same manufacturer so hopefully
they are using the same algorithm for all of them.
I have Alpha 10s in my 2x10s 2cuft. reflex cabs, which sound fairly hifi for
guitar speakers. They start sounding best at medium high volumes, although
ok too at lower levels. The Alpha 8s seem to spike a bit higher than the 3k
of the 10s. The Alpha 8MRA looks odd, like a very efficient upper mid,
probaly not used alone, unless in a building PA system.

He bought the business, and must have all the records/files?
Bg
I have both an early as well as a newer NY8 cab and can't hear any
difference, mind my ears are Old!

there weren't records of much of it. He had to buy back some of the
cabinets in order to recreate them. I think the T8T was one of them.
he used off the shelf speakers and tuned the baffles by ear with JB's
help if I recall correctly. Problem is that eminence periodically
redesigns things. At one point the S12 used a cast frame speaker but
later eminence discontinued it so he switched the the Delta 12A. Now
they are making it again. I have one of the cast frame speakers in a
1x12 cab and it sounds fantastic.
I had an Original Model(8 ohms) and was using it with a Polytone(4
Ohm) head. I tried the twin 8 and found it too bulky for the gigs I
did.
So I used one 8 for a while and then got a second to drop me down to 4
Ohms if I needed to like for a B-3 or outdoor gig, I haven't had to do
it tho.
When I hooked up both NY8's to my Polytone I was expecting it to sound
a little like my Twin 8, but it just wasn't happening.
Skip and Jef both told me one of the cabs must have the speaker leads
on backwards and therefore out of Phase.
It was very true, and funnily enough it was the Older Original cab
that had the leads reversed.
I would never have noticed it in normal application of using just one
cab, but when I put them both together ti showed.
I reversed the leads on one cab and problem was solved.
