The guitar called Mrs. Natural was the one that Ken completed building
and strung up minutes before I arrived to review it and the Olive
Branch for Just Jazz Guitar. It sounded amazing then, but it's really
opened up. It's stunning on those recordings.
Ken says that he was really busy the last couple of weeks taking Mrs.
Natural around the New York Guitar Festival that just wound up. With
luck there'll be some new recordings by more of the pros that were
mightily impressed with Mrs. Natural. We'll see.
Now Ken can get back to finishing my guitar. It'll have Aspen back and
sides and Alaskan Sitka top with bear claw and ebony board and trim. I
finally couldn't resist and ordered mine in late December. When
finished it'll be available for recording sessions for a while. We'll
ask one of the boys to lay down some nice tracks so that you can hear
its voice.
Looks like Ken's on track to complete four per year. He hopes to
increase that to somewhere between six and nine, but will not likely
go beyond that and it'll take him a year or two to get there. He has
no apprentice or helper and does everything but the tuners and
tailpiece himself. He does the knobs for the tuners, the strap pin,
etc. and he built the first tailpieces and then found a fabricator.
Ken's pure genius and fun to work with. I make requests, but rely on
Ken to make final decisions. After all, he's the genius, not me.
