Does anyone know what has become of John Dogherty, of Min'd Pick
"fame"? He used to invite people to challenge him as the world's
fastest guitarist. I bought his book "Jazz guitar, 80's and beyond"
and it was pretty good. I also wrote him and he wrote a very nice
personal letter to me. I never heard of any recordings, though.

There was a guy named Mac(k) Dougherty when I was a student at Berklee
in the mid '70s who was pretty good too.

What happened to him?

I knew Mac in Dallas in the late 70's through the 80's and he was
always in demand for gigs. A wonderful player and a very nice guy.

It's a joke. Pat Martino hipped me to this. John Dogherty was track
star in college, and his claim of being the "world's fastest
guitarist" was for his running chops, not his playing chops.

He passed away in 2011 in Vegas. I played drums with him in the late 70's. Great guitarist, and great person.

Yes he did, in fact, use a stone pick. He was a very talented guy. Great teacher too.
