Last week I got together all of the junk in my basement I have been
meaning to sell/ebay off for a while, including some music equipment (a
Tech21 Trademark 60 I picked up cheap locally and hated at first, but
started to like it right after I put it on ebay...it sold for my
inflated buy it now price).

Anyways, I wound up making a killing on ebay. Enough that I was going to
buy a hollowbody guitar (been playing through my Tele) and replace the
Trademark 60 with a tube amp. But then I figured - heck, I've owned this
Tele for about 10 years now and never had it setup by a pro. Let me get
it setup! So I bring it to a well-known area tech/luthier. I knew the
frets had some indentations towards the first few frets (previous owner
must have liked the open D chord!), but man, when he pulled those
strings back and showed me the rest of the frets under the light I
gulped in horror. They were all flattened out. No crown. I knew the
guitar was tough to play, with high action. But I was kind of hoping
that a level/setup would suffice.

Well, with a $400 estimate and 3 weeks time, my Tele will be refretted.
Seems like a high price but I checked around and most are in the $300 -
$400 range in my area. But 3 weeks is a long damn time to not have a
guitar. So I was all set to buy a guitar when I stumbled upon my dream
amp, an old Princeton Reverb, for way cheap ($350) and in great shape. I
knew I'd never see one at that price again (of course tomorrow I'll walk
into a pawn shop and see one for $75!), so I nabbed it up. It's sitting
here now, looking great, and I have nothing to play through it. The agony!

I may just pull a GregD and order a guitar from zzounds or
musiciansfriend and "audition" it for 29 days : )

Here's some pics of my new amp:

Incidentally - the broken reverb is now fixed (I think - won't know for
sure until I can play a guitar through it). The reverb driver tube had a
seriously bent pin - so bent there was no way it was inserting properly
into the socket. It's straightened out now.

Good luck with all your sales. I did that starting right after Christmas
when my last band project went kaput. I sold enough to buy a new guitar
and amp, pay for repairs on my son's car and mine and still have enough
left over for a set of Doug's Plugs.

Nice. I just picked up a Fender Princeton Chorus for $100. Gotta love
it!

Now would be a time to consider that acoustic/electric you want.

How does that work with shipping? I never shipped a guitar before. Just
pop it in the same box they sent it to me in, and ship it back via UPS
with insurance?

Yeah I'm pretty much all done now. If it weren't for the refret costing
me so much I'd have been set with a nice amp and a cheap archtop. Oh
well, at least my Tele should play real nice when I get it back. The
tech told me that the action tension was so bad on it before that I'll
need to relearn how to fret the thing when I get it back or risk
damaging my hands from overpressing!

Exactly. You need to call them and get a return auth number, though,
before you package it up.
