It's a long sorted story starting last October. MF did give me $75 back in
November to help defer shipping costs and cost of having a tech try to fix
the first one but I'm still down about $70. Cost $55 to ship the thing to
Ibanez each time. I feel like I walked into the wrong bar and a couple guys
took me out back to the alley and pounded me, and robbed me!
Really thought long and hard on the JSM100. Spent more on it than any other
guitar ever. Always had good luck with Ibanez in the past. Had a GB10 for a
while which was excellent but I didn't really like the smaller body. May
consider a GB200 but now I'm spooked. Besides they are pricy now... $3000
street price.
Anyway... beware if you consider getting a JSM100 new. If I was John
Scofield I wouldn't want my name on the things they are shipping today.
I bought a recent (2008) Ibanez GB-10 and it's flawless so their
quality is still high.

That makes sense. Sco isn't known for getting the Matt Otten sound out of
that guitar...

Ooh, nice! Those are beautiful guitars. You must be in Europe or
somewhere -- with the US/Euro exchange being so bad, the Moffa's are
too expensive.
Please let us know when you get it!
Peace,
Although the exchange rate is not that favourable, you should ask for
his price list, you may be pleasantly surprised.

I have the original AS-200 that I used to gig with in the 80's. That
to this day it's one of the sweetest playing guitars I've ever owned.
All the Ibanez pro-model (i.e., made in Japan) guitars are fantastic,
I guess with the exception of your model for some reason.
My experience with Ibanez products has always been very good also. That's
why I was fairly confident buying this through MF. I'm in Iowa and it's hard
to find anything like this in the area so online is often the best option.
But I'm just astounded at this. I have never seen this type of problem to
this degree in a $200 guitar much less a $2000 guitar. Also, I can accept
that one or even two have a manufactuing defect, but all of them?!
Something ain't right with the universe.
i've heard that musicians friend cuts deals with the manufacturers to
get cheaper instruments that either have not gone through full quality
control and/or even unmarked seconds. This is what many big box stores
do with tvs, tools, etc. If you buy a Bosch drill from sears for
example, it has cheaper brushes and other internal motor parts.
Wouldn't surprise me at all to find out musicians friend is doing the
same thing with the volume of gear they can move.
If you want to buy Ibanez and skip the Musicians Friend route, you can
buy an Ibanez from Chesbro music. Chesbro is one of the two american
Ibanez distributors (Hoshino being the other). I ordered my AK105sm
from them since they're bound to have the limited edition models when
MF doesn't carry them.

Thanks for the tip Dan. I didn't know this before this experience (and still
did not know about Chesbro) but I did learn about Hoshino because that's
where I had to send the guitar (twice!) for warranty service. I had to call
them once and the recording had an option to have a catelog sent. :-)
