Has anybody tried this for a jazz axe? Are the pups too hot, etc.? I
understand that it is quite well built and low priced.

I owned one for a while. It's a really nice guitar. That said, it is
still a Tele... the humbuckers are pure Fender, not Gibson. They are
brighter and more full range than a typical PAF clone. It has a
wonderful sound, especially for funk and R&B. But for jazz I think it
has too much of the Tele 'edge' even with the buckers. Not saying you
can't play with new pups, turn down tone, etc. - but I'm reviewing it
as it is out of the box.

I had the swamp ash with maple fingerboard variety... and I later built
one with Warmoth parts; that one has a swamp ash body, solid rosewood
neck, and a Gibson Burstbucker in the neck (that one smokes for jazz,
among other things).
