I replaced the stock speaker in my (by now, old and antiquated) 60W 110R (no
tweeter) JazzAmp with a Ragin Cajun, and really like the sound. Previously,
it was way too dark. Now it's just right.
But I don't play loud. I understand that it's not only a bright speaker, but
also a very efficient speaker, so it should be louder at the same power
level. Musicians Friend notes that it's a 75W RMS/150W peak speaker, so I'd
guess that it'd be OK in the 120W into 8 Ohms JazzAmp. Your problem isn't
melting, it's breaking up, so you'd have to try it to see if it gets enough
louder without breaking up. You could try contacting Eminence and asking if
it'd be noticeably louder than the Beta.
But I don't play loud.
FWIW, replacing the speaker is really easy. And I really like the sound with
the Rajin Cajun: the reverb sucked highs, and now it's possible to use the
reverb.

David..you have the 60? I played one (charlie Robinsons) and i thought
it was fantastic.
I just got the 160 head and use a couple 10s for it. Right now its my
fav amp..i sold a bunch of other tube amps on ebay recently after
setting up the current rig.
Im surprised to hear about the breakup though...What guitar/pickup are
u using? Less than 1/2 way up?...maybe a torn cone?
I like the weber 10f150 with my jazzamp...i also have a delta demon
and rajun cajun in other amps and they work well for jazz too. Let us
know what you find out!.
It's a kent armstrong full size humbucking pu.....I'm not crazy about
the pickup but it can't be very high output. The speaker cone is fine
I just think it's a really poor match for the amp. It distorts too
quickly for anyone to realistically use it on a gig unless we're
talking about recital hall volume levels and even then playing with a
drummer would overtax it for sure.
I have the 112 version, never had any breakup problems with the Beta,
maybe there's something wrong with your amp. BTW I hated the Beta (for
his sound, never distorted), the EV is wonderful on that amp! But
finding a 10 EV is tough... I think Rivera still has some, talk to
them. I assume you are aware of the weight of an EV...
I have one of the very early Henriksen Jazzamp 10" 60watts. It does
break up easily. A 10' Jensen Neo should do it. Plenty of power
handling ability and light weight magnet, too!
The Jensen Neo is for certain a good match. I have the regular neo in
my jazzmaster ultralight and sounds great. I also like the Tornado, a
friend of mine has one in an Henriksen and loves it, makes the amp
really light. The Tornado sort of balances the Henriksen because it
doesnt have much lows, no spike in mids and very soft highs - it adds
highs to the amp and makes it less dark / midrangy.
If you have the old 60w version you can put a regular 100 8 ohms. With
the new version you can put a 16 ohms one, the Henriksen puts 100w at
16 ohms so you don't risk blowing the speaker.
Thanks guys.
That has turned out to be my most reliable amp ,I use it for
everything now. I get a great sound with no problems at all. I've
played some pretty loud gigs at extemely (as in all of the way up)
high volumes and there is a bit of distotion but not a bad type but
rather that which gives the guitar a warm sound. I very rarely play
that loud anyway. The speaker is holding up fine.

Charlie..if thats the same amp i played thorugh, its a fantastic amp.
I got the henriksen head...sounds great..but i remember yours sounding
just perfect. Im still looking for a 60w combo for grab and go.
Good luck, they are great (yes it's the same one).
