My wife and I were watching a recent Clapton concert on TV the other night.
The concert seemed quite uninspired (to both of us) but...

Clapton was playing what appeared to be a either a custom L5 or custom
es-350. Clearly a gibson, blonde, L5 neck and tailpeice, single P-90, with
input jack on lower bout. It sure looked like a carved top, but the p90 and
input jack say es-350. My bet from the sound would be L-5, though Ive never
seen/heard one with a p-90. The sound was round and rich, with no hint of
p90 buzz. Im not fond of ECs playing, but he does get a terrific tone out
of that thing. What a beauty, too.

Don't know what you mean by the jack, but L5's had Alnico P90's before the
humbucker came out. They are very sought after. Don't know about a
single pickup model.

No, it's on the rim like all the others.

ps - One of the more famous users of the P90 L5 was Scotty Moore with
Elvis.

Clapton played an ES-350T with P-90s at the Chuck Berry tribute
concert produced by Keith Richards some years back. He said he chose
the guitar to honor Berry, but he didn't notice.

I was confused by my buddys L5C with an aftermarket humbucker installed with
endpin jack. Great guitar, though not original.

But I was thinking about the one on the stand behind him.

Sure looks like an L-5, but the one I saw was blonde, and one pup.

You can bet that Chuck noticed. It would be out of character for him
to acknowledge that he noticed.

It's an L5. Saw Clapton with it on the Jools holland show. It's as the poster describes it -- blonde, single p90, clearly factory original. Only one I've ever seen like it. Immaculate too. My guess is custom order, early/mid 50's. I surely wish I had it.
