Hey guys,

Jeff Hale sent me the first S10-ER that was built in his shop. Among other
RE cabs I have that were built by Rich, my favorite over all is my S10-ER.
I'll be writing a review for Just Jazz Guitar to appear in May, but I
thought I'd put out the early word here that Jeff has succeeded in matching
the look, feel and, most importantly, THE SOUND of the Raezer's Edge cabs. I
haven't done any serious testing, but I did play them over the weekend,
switching back and forth between Rich's and Jeff's cabs. They're the same in
every significant respect.

I haven't tried all of Jeff's line, but I think it's safe to assume that if
he can match the extended range cabs like the S10-ER, then the S12, NY8,
T8-T, etc. are going to equal Rich's cabs. The S10-ER has a crossover and
overset tweeter with and attenuation control on the tweeter. The other cabs
are simpler, with the challenge being to primarily to match the cabinet
dimensions, stiffness and speaker specs (Jeff uses the same Emminence
speakers that Rich used). See http://www.raezers-edge.com/ for the Raezer's
Edge line.

Besides the Hale/Raezer review I'm working on a review of one of the new
Acoustic Image amps. It'll probably be the Clarus 2R Series III, since
that's of high interest to guitarists. Besides an external redesign, the AI
boys put the same switching power supply that first appeared in the SL-R and
Focus into their full line. This new power supply sweetens the tone slightly
while adding power at the same time (nice trick) so that the Clarus is now
up to 400W. See http://www.acousticimg.com/index2.html for the AI line.

BTW, who's in the Denver area? I'm developing new contacts now that I moved
from Dallas. I need a few new partners in crime to mess around with all
these jazz guitar toys.

Hi Dave Looking foward to JJG review. I just got a stelth 12 From Jeff
and it sounds just like
the old ones I have played through. I am using the new focus 2R. It
doesn't get any better then this. Good luck finding some new partners

Hi Dave,
I purchased one of the last S10-ER's from Murch Music, it's a wonderful
cabinet, I love it!
I'm thinking about replacing my original Clarus series one with a new Clarus
2R series III. My original amp has a bit of noise/hiss that can be heard
from across the room. Do you feel that the new models are quieter than
previous ones, and is the tone differents fairly noticeable between the
series one and three.
Thanks, and have a great Christmas.
Frank

I finished my review for JJG so I'll bump this thread to the top again. My
initial findings still hold. Jeff's S10-ER matches Rich's in every way.

This is my favorite RE cab. Like the S12-ER it's got crystal clear highs,
with no harsh edge at all, even with the tweeter turned up to 2 o'clock. The
midrange is rich and smooth and the bass is full and deep, but without being
as boomy and hard to control as the S12-ER. I did have to put it up on a
chair at saturday's gig, but off the hard, wooden floor it was perfect.

In comparision, the 6+8 is a little dryer sounding and less luxurious. The
S10-ER falls between the 6+8 and the S12-ER. The 6+8 may be the ideal
nylon-string cab, while the S10-ER does a good job at nylon, but is more
versatile at covering a big range of genres.

Since hearing Mark K's latest CD I've been using a Boss GT-6 to vary my
sound quite dramatically. If you never play nylon or flat top and/or you
always go for a dark "classic jazz tone", then the ER cabs are a waste for
you. Stick with a T8, S12, S10 or NY8. However, if you play fingerstyle, or
use effects, then the ER cabs are the way to go, IMHO.

Hi Dave,

I placed an order with Jeff last week for some cables. He mentioned the
great lengths that they went through to get these cabinets exactly like the
originals.
Nice fellow, and it's great to know that Rich's legacy will live on. I'm
definitely planning on doing some more business with him in the future.

Oh and thanks for the review, I'll look forward to my issue of JJG.
Luck and health, Frank
