Ed Bickert used Evans in his lat few years, i caught him live, and It
sounded Great.

Not exactly an A/B, but I owned and gigged regularly with a JE 150 for
about three years. It's a fat sound with a lot of clean headroom, but
it's not the prettiest jazz guitar sound in the world in my opinion.
There is a sort of roughness to the sound, but it will cut through
anything and the eq range is a bit more versatile than say an Acoustic
Image.
I only played the Henriksen once in a music store and while I wasn't
blown away, I thought it was a decent amp. It was sort of in the
polytone family of small midrangey, somewhat dark sounding amps. I
think Henricksen has introduced a couple new models since I tried it.
For smaller jazz gigs or solo gigs I'd go with the Henricksen. If you
are playing with a drummer in somewhat bigger rooms the Evans will
work well.
I play a 175 and gigged with a JE200 for a few years. I agree with the other
posters that a) it'll cut through anything and b) I was constantly fussing
with the knobs trying to get a sound I liked. I don't think it's the best
match for a 175 and would not recommend. Back when it was the hot amp on
this NG it was being paired with floater carved tops mostly, which is
probably a better match.

Me too, had one for years, worked fine with my J. Smith, but sounded
horrible with any other guitar. Reverb is basically nonexistent.

I ordered a new Evans 200 model (? can't remember precisely). Super
loud, but I could not set the treble above 1 if I wanted a good sound.
The tone controls made no sense to me. Mine arrived with reverb DOA,
and I paid well over $1K for the amp. Evans sent me a new tank, which
I had to install. They would not pay for return shipping to fix it for
me. I prefer the Henriksen over the Evans, but I prefer Polytone (the
old ones: Minibrute IV and V) to either of those amps (I like the
Polytone better than my Acoustic Image, too).
After about 6 months, the amp stopped working at all. I had only
played it for about 6 hours in this whole time, too. Evans was very
good about it, though, and replaced the entire chassis with the latest
model for free.
I should mention, though, that I found an old Evans pedal steel amp
with 15" JBL used at Guitar Center a few years ago, and I have hung on
to that amp. It sounds really nice, but is too heavy ever to leave my
front room.
