I read an inter view with DB in some magazine and was surprised at his
dour responses to all the questions. Last night, I found this
interview on C the great Classic Jazz Guitar website, where
Ben Young interviewed him on the radio and must have caught him in a
good mood (or his ADs finally kicked in ; - ) cause he's bubbling over
with memories about his meeting and playing with Eric Dolphy, Bud
Powell, Booker Little, George Coleman, Scott La Faro, Red Mitchell,
etc...
There's also a duo recording of him and John Stowell doing a nice
version of "Rainy Day". He can still play.

Wow, great playing! Right up there w/ the best from that era - Rainey,
Roberts, Tal. I've always loved the "Classic Jazz Guitar" Web site for
the availability of recordings to see what someone sounds like.

I like the album with Billy Bean. Bean really smokes on that album,
but Budimer's playing is good on it too. He was a distinctive
sounding jazz player on that album and the Revelation ones as well.

Thanks for this Va,

It took me a coupla days to read the whole thing due to interruptions.
I have some of those Releation Records, and Dennis was alway inspiring
on those.

His distinction between "spacey" and "non-spacey" players is
interesting.
That's really what separates him from players like Kessel, Farlow
etc...
Otherwise, he's more straight-ahead than he seems.
He didn't like being lumped with Ornette by the interviewer, and more
than twice said he loved Phil Woods' playing (my personal fave) more
than Ornette's.
There's a lot of great interviews on the CJG website, and I got a lot
out of Joe Diorio's interview- the octave displacement thing
especially.
It was pretty unfair that he got kicked out of the Guitar Institute by
the Japanese guy that took it over, because the new owner said that
jazz is not a West Coast thing anymore.

Thanks for the Heads Up on Joe, I'll check it out.
