I tried out the 210 in a local store and was pretty impressed. the clean
sound was real nice, good reverb, and the dirty channel seemed usuable. for
the money, it was a good deal. i imagine the 212 is more of the same, and
heavier.

I tried one and hated it.
Keiren Overs, the great bass player who also plays guitar, just bought a
65 watt FM and loves it. He told me that Lorne Lofsky was using an FM recently.

Reg Schwager just told me how much he likes his new Roland Cube 30, with
the amp modeling. He says he uses the BlackFace model for jazz.

Thanks Bill and Joey, I guess my best bet is to go and try one myself I just
noticed that they are having a sale on them down here.

Our rhythm guitarist uses one as a backup. To me, it sounds remarkably
unspectacular. (His main amp, a Crate, sounds better.) If your
expectations are low, there'll be no disappointments. later, ron

if you're going that big..try the Fender Jazz King..I lug mine around to
most gigs and find it to be worth the workout

Better than some of the small high powered amps that you have been using
lately?

Charlie,

I've not tried the FM212, but only because there's a certain level of
Fender SS amp i don't go below. The FM212 sold for $299 since they came
out, though a recent prie increase has pruched thme to $349.

As for other Fender SS amps abve that price range - Cyber champ,
Ultimate chrous, others - I've not been imprressed.

The one hopeful I had heard excellent things about for jazz and othr
genres was the Fender Stage 1600, but when mine arrived in such bad
shape that I couldn't get it to play loud enough to use, I threw in the
towel on newer Fender SS amps.

Instead, I've got a PV Transtube 212 eFX comig in next week. It was on
clearance for $399 onlie (they're gone now) and sell for $499-549
everywhere else. They're made in the US, unlike the Fender FM series,
which I believe is chinese-made, not Korean.

We'll see if the hype aurrounding the PV is as owrthy.

IMHO..there's nothing like a 15" (larger speaker) for lower volume
gigs...for presence and filling the sound..the small amps...like my Evans
e.g....I noticed when friends sit in a play my rig..and when you get more
than 10' from the bandstand you can hardly hear the guitar...especially off
the to the sides..cranking up the volume just makes it too loud for the
bandstand mix...and thus the band starts to compensate (we all know that
phenomenon) ..personally I have been staying away from the smaller amps
unless I'm hanging my 57 in front of it and it's going through a PA..and
since I do mostly trio sans vocals..there is no system..I'd rather bite the
bullet and lug my King or my Old Booogie Mark I, or the Deluxe Reverb kit
amp..so until the old corpus screams no puedo mas...nothin' less than a 12"
for most larger rooms/low volume rooms..email me off group and I will refer
you to a buddy who can get you a new King at an excellent price..

I'm considering a lot of different options right now. I have developed
tendonitis in the elbow region. Given what Jimmy Bruno is going through it
might be better if I go the smaller amp route. I have become interested in
the larger ones again recently mainly because they are reasonably priced.
Also I get a little bit queeszy when I think about going through an 8 inch
speaker. 15's are great for chord melody, I never have gone below 10's .

I'm considering getting one of those new Fender Jazzmaster Ultralight
head/cab units. I've read some good feedback on them and I'm getting
tired of tube mantainence/inconsistency of my tube combo. Apparantly
the second channel is good for some gain versatility as well.

That's what I didn't like about tube amps. Years ago you would run out on
the break and use a tubetester at a drugstore and buy the replacement but it
was a drag. Now you don't even have that option.

Well, my Evans has 2 8" speakers in it and they sound great, no
shortage of bass response. Evans told me the reason they went with 8"
speakers was because they felt they cut through the mix better than
anything else. They definitely have a lot of presence.

My RE NY-8 has no shortage of low end, either. It's a very warm-sounding
cabinet. I find myself rolling off bass in a lot of rooms.

All I could find so far is:

http://fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&topic_number=554818
http://fenderforum.com/forum.html?db=&topic_number=549177

That and a tiny bit on this group.

Looks like they're supposed to be reviewed in the upcoming june

Thanks.
For me, the fact that it doesn't have an effects loop is a big problem.
Still, I'd like to try one.
The 12th Fret here in Toronto looks like they're stocking them.

But I may have already found a Pearce G2r that I'm going to buy instead.
