This is an odd one. First, it doesn't sound much like Barney, though I
know he played some nylon string guitar, it just doesn't seem very
"Kessil-ated". Second it comes up as "Estrela do Sol", but it is
actually Estrada do Sol by Jobim. Finally I'm really surprised that
Barney worked with Silvia Telles, because I think she died very early
on in the bossa years.
A side note--too bad she wasn't married to Joao Gilberto when Getz
impulsively asked his wife (sadly it was Astrud instead) to croak out a
few tunes.

Hmm, good question. Maybe it isn't.

To me it sounds similar to the guitar tone on the tune "Key Largo" with Sarah
Vaughan. I think he's playing on that but that's like the only recording I have
that he's playing on so obviously not much experience there. hah.

I love Astrud's singing on those old bossa numbers. There's no
accounting for taste ;-)

Absolutely, though most of the fans that have witnessed my tantrums or
dissections of Astrud's singing usually end up admitting it was more
about her looks and "ambience". Some people even like the asthmatic
"singing" of Peggy Lee! They think it's sexy and so it's an acceptable
replacement for music. But hey, the history of pop cultire is riddled
with greatly-loved trifles. I have some as well.

There was a certain beauty that came through in her singing that
transcended everything else.

Bingo! And in my ears it's aural equivalent to a fright wig. But that
kind of diversity is what Iove I generally about music and about pop
art altogether.

That's definitively Barney.

Her output was limited as she died pretty young. If you're not already
wise, some of my favorites or Leny Andrade, Simone, Gal Costa, Elis
Regina...
