I'm the manager of a team of engineers that track the configuration of

Licensed psychologist working in nursing homes. That's actually my only
job, since I don't have a night job! I'm not good enough at playing
guitar to get paid for it.

I whine about Bush and the Jews pretty much full-time now. My hobby is
wearing white shoes and a white belt right up under my armpits. I am bald

almost exclusively online, no limit holdem cash games (no tournaments,
occasionally I play pot limit omaha for fun). generally play 5/10
blinds, sometimes higher. I play live sometimes for fun and when in
vegas but that's about it.

My day job takes place almost always at night.
Recording studio president and janitor.
I record everything from Media Voice overs and jingles to C & W, Rap,
Gospel, Heavy and when I'm lucky, Blues and Jazz
I've kept Castle Sound Productions as my only job for 32 years now.
How? I don't know.
Overhead -- Overhead.

I have been playing gigs since 1962. Presently with my jazz trio, "Slow
Motion Monkey."
And of course in the studio when appropriate.
I love arranging strings and horns, and charting sessions (with no
proper education). Just years of books and some very generous friends
who have shown me how.
Like most folks here, I am Google-able under the studio name or Michael

After programming computers and working for "the man" for 20 years. In
1998 I quit and became self-employed, programming embedded systems and
firmware that controls machinery, and collects data in various
manufacturing process settings. Current contract is with a well-known
global truck and engine manufacturer, but have written control code for
machine processing of paper, plastics, foundries/metal casting,
assembly, cnc, even a gizmo that measured how fast a radio signal
travels through 20 foot high coils of coaxial cable for cell phone
towers, as well as the usual temperature, liquid level, and shaft
position data-collection stuff, etc.

Was a music major in college but took a different road. Play guitar
for fun, with the eventual hope of leaving behind some half-decent song
arrangements floating around on the Internet when I pass on, and
improving my playing.

hi tom
i'm in yorkshire in the uk. originally from dublin, ireland but have
lived in the uk for ten years.

over the last few years there's been a lot of european union and
english lottery and arts council money pumped into former coal mining
areas which have suffered huge levels of economic deprivation since
Thatcher closed the pits in the mid eighties.

a fair proportion of this regeneration (and associated funding) is
focused on the arts as a tool for education, consultation, community
regeneration, etc etc.

the pot will dry up eventually, but for the last few years and probably
for a couple more to come it's been pretty good for creatives.

my wife does stuff like this too, but she's a painter/ visual artist as
well as a musician/ songwriter, she does well mixing and matching
disciplines.

it's really rewarding work most of the time as you can iimagine.

yep, i've got it good at the moment.

ought to thank my lucky stars more often. I got into this completely
by accident when i was out of a gig about 6 years ago.

For the last five years I've worked as a sociology professor at the
state university in Beaumont, Texas. Being a professor is a really good
gig (except for the paltry bread), but Beaumont mostly sucks as a place
to live. The whole county is dotted with chemical plants and gas
refineries. Exxon-Mobil's third biggest plant in the country is right
across the street from my workplace. It's hard to explain in words how
awful it is to live with the petrochemical industry as your neighbor.
You have to experience it with all of your senses to fully understand
the horror. I love my job, but Exxon-Mobil and I cannot coexist.

Then just a few hours ago, I got an offer to work in San Antonio, TX,
which is a really nice, liveable city with a warm climate, low cost of

That's what I might get back to - with our current I.T. job
environment, I might "have" to go back to teaching (not that I mind - I
really love it) full time. I'd be happier as a jazz guitarist/teacher
in Vermont that an I.T. guru in D.C./NYC (previous homes) anyway.
