I've been happily using the ceramic tonker in several amps/cabs. The
regular tonker is very efficient and sounds equally good for clean
jazz as it does overdriven fusion stuff.

The tonker weighs 11lbs.

I've grown tired of lugging heavy cabs around was less than satisfied
with the various light weight cabs that tried. For several years I've
been looking for a lightweight neodymium speaker which is not honky or
midrangy like the weber, jensens, celestions and emi delta-lites I
have played through.

I just received a Tonker-Lite in the mail today. It weighs 4lbs it's
hard to believe that there could even be a speaker in the box which
weighed more than the speaker.

I installed the tonker-lite in a 12x24x18, open back cab. I plugged my
Evans head into it and was pleasantly surprised.

The good:

No honkyness at all.
Very bright and relatively open sounding.
very good clean
very good overdriven.
very good bass
very good treble
relatively flat midrange.
very efficient
sounds similar to ceramic Tonker

The bad

missing the ceramic Tonker's "magic"
sounds good but not fabulous

More thoughts later...

Tim from Earcandy cabs told me that the difference between the two was
that the lite is a bit brighter than the standard model.

Keep in mind that it won't sound its best until it has been properly
broken in.

break-in is a myth IMO. Why is it that anecdotally in 100% of the
cases, speaker break-in improves the tone? That's a statistical
impossibility. Suspiciously, I have *NEVER* heard someone say they
don't like a speaker after it's broken in. The difference before and
after breakin is very minimal IMO. My ceramic tonker has not changed
in tone after over 150 hours use.

we have a pair of the regular tonkers as a replacement in a Fender
twin. which over the years has mellowed out a bit in tone yielding a
slightly smoother response.Would like to hear more on the lite
version

What guitar/amp is pushing it?

I find it highly unlikely that 100% of people who say they hear a
difference between a new and broken in speaker are delusional.

As to the claim no one dislikes a broken-in speaker, let me tell you
about the stock speaker in my 30 year old Fender Concert Rivera. It's
plenty broken in and sounds like a flatulent old man yelling at
children who are playing on his lawn.

I guess you've never read the results of the double-blind monster
cable test?

Cables are long wirey things and speakers are big round things.
They're different

Look me up next time you're in Miami. We'll hit the beach, play some
tennis, and listen to some speakers and cables :)
