I play an ES-175 with 12 d'addario chromes flatwounds.and want to buy a
Polytone.
Since there's no dealer in Belgium I have to order it without trying.

I prefer a warm sound, even on the two thinnest strings, I don't like it
when there's a large difference in sound between the wound strings and the
plain ones.

Has anyone of you compared the minibrute 2 with the 4 and could you tell me
the difference?

Thanx, Michel.

I have three Polytones...a baby brute, a MBII and a MBIV. I prefer the MBIV.
It has more bottom end and a little more volume than the II. The only
drawback is that it is a little bigger than the II, but it is probably worth
it. Sometimes I get lazy and take the II out on gigs, but if I could only
have one amp, I would go with the MBIV.

The minibrute II has a 12" speaker and weighs apporx 30 lbs. The IV
has a 15" speaker and weighs approx 36 lbs. apart from that they are
both very similar. Get the model with the new"sonic Circuit" for that
extra warmth. We are using a a Minibrute V ( has a tweeter) for bass,
keys, elec and acoustic gtr.
You may need to adjust the height of your pickup or the indiviual
pickup screws ( on humbucker p/u)to balance out the tone on your gtr.
I've also found that different picking techniques greatly effect your
tone.

I've had both (many moons ago), but only kept the MB IV with the 15"
speaker, which I've had since the '70's. I found it to be warmer and, with
a laminated guitar (in my case, a '65 Gibson Tal Farlow), I thought it
really captured that traditional, warm tone. I also use Chromes on that
guitar (13's). Though I love that sound, I'm now addicted to a carved top
and the Clarus/Raezer's Edge combination and my Tal Farlow and MB IV are
collecting a little dust.

Have you tried across the border?
Verspuy in Rotterdam has had Polytone for a long time in stock. I think
Feedback (also in R'dam) has a 2hand MBIV.
