It's a bit overpriced and the included speaker is not so hot...
But still a good deal.
I'd buy it myself, but I don't need the cab because I've already got one.
But it's the best sounding open back 1 X 12 cab I have yet to hear.
If you buy it, put an EVM-12L in it.
I was going to grab a G1 head myself but have decided to get another
another G2r head when the next one comes up.
Meanwhile there's a G1 head on eBay now too.

Also not a bad deal.
These Pearce amps sound *killer* for jazz and can also handle
pop/rock/R&B. And no friggin' tubes to futz with.

what makes this 1x12 sound better than any other open back 1x12 or did
you mean the amp part?
Wait a second...
1. A bit *overpriced*.
2. Speaker not so hot.
Conclusion - "But Still A Good Deal"
Huh???
:)
van, where you playing in white plains? I live around there.

I mean the cabinet.
And I don't know why it sounds better than other open back cabs I've
tried, but it just does.
It might have something to do with the driver not being dead centre in
the baffle.
It might have something to do with the cab being a bit oversized.
It might have something to do with the port they have built-in. But
that's for their option of closing the back with a board that they
supplied with my combo that seems to be missing from this sale. That's
too bad, because these are great sounding closed-back cabs too. I can't
see how the port would have any effect when used in open-back mode.
I don't know either of those guys, sorry.
They're harder and harder to find, and they're the best ss (pre-digital)
amps ever made.
That one sold, right after I posted here, and it had been listed and
re-listed for a few weeks.
Was it somebody from here?

This one's still available.
Joey, are they noisy at idle/medium volume? And do they usually need to be
serviced (being over 10years old)?
Of course I care less about noise at gig volume, but I can't practice
long on amps with a prominent noise floor.
And usually I can live better with tube noise that ss noise.
This amp:

...was one that you should have picked up. If you look at the back
photo, you'll see that in orange there's a 1.7 stamped into it - the
seller didn't mention that. We talked about this mod before - it's
basically a G1 brought close to a G2, with extra headroom on Channel
2, more gain on 1, and other goodies (presence, mid-range shift).
It's different, and better than both the G1 and G2 in its own way.
Do you know about this site?

On my G2r I just set the mid control flat. I keep the Bass at 12:00 and
the Treble and Presence at 0, for straight ahead jazz. Sometimes, on
gigs, that's a bit too dark and I'll add some highs back in.
Reg Schwager likes to back off a few db at 500hz.
Note: I'm using an EVM-12L in a Pearce open back combo-amp cab.
Sorry. If you know the G2r's knob layout that could be confusing.
For jazz:
Bass = 0 (i.e. 12:00)
Treble & Presence = -5 (i.e. 7:00)
Joey - You seem to have bounced back and forth between G1 and G2 a couple
of times(?) Why now the G2 over the G1?
Well, most recently...
I bought my G2r head about 4 years ago now for $275.00 from a pawn shop
in Texas. I already had a Pearce combo amp shell/cabinet to put it in.
(see below) It's become my main amp for any jazz gigs I do where there's
minimal stage area and where I want to be able to set up and tear down
quickly.
It's effects board is fried though so, although it can get great rock
sounds too, I never use it for any other gigs or for jazz gigs where I
want to fuse-out a bit without having to bring a rack of effects with me.
(Note: I'm a rack guy. I got off the pedals bandwagon in the 80s and
never saw the sense of going retro again like everybody else seems to
have done. I do use MIDI foot-controllers though to change effects
presets and to control things like volume and wah in real-time.)
If I'm going to bring a rack to a gig it might as well be my Axe-FX rig
which sounds great for any style of music.
But my G2r has been acting up almost since the day I bought it. One of
its two channels kept cutting out and there was this intermittent static
noise that was across both channels that is loud enough to ruin a
recording session or a quiet gig. I'd been tinkering around inside for
months and months trying to fix it without success.
So, since I like the Pearce sound and figure that I could get a bit
mileage from one with a working reverb, and since I'd come to not trust
the G2rs reliability, I thought I'd try to grab a G1 asap. Plan B, so to
speak. With the way I like to do amp overdrive all I'd need for
fusion-ish gigs would be a volume pedal to put in the effects loop and a
channel footswitch.
But lo and behold, the other day I fixed my G2r. All I had to do was to
use some control cleaner on one of the jacks inside. It seems to have
fixed both problems.
I'd been planning on finding another G2r with a working effects board
since the day I found out that mine's effects were toast and were
irreparable. (The way *I* fried that board is another story.)
And now that I trust the G2r again I'm thinking that I'll go back to
plan A.
The G2r's effects board was made by Alesis and allows for digital reverb
or delay to be applied to either channel with different wet levels for
each channel. It will allow me to have a little bit of reverb on my
clean sounds and a little bit of echo on my gainier lead sounds, which
is the way I like to do things generally even with my rack rig, and the
only extra shit I'll have to take to those gigs is a simple passive
volume pedal and a channel switch.
So that's why I've switched back to looking for a G2r instead of a G1
recently.
In the past...
Throughout much of the 80s I used a G1 combo amp on all my gigs;
jobbing, jazz, fusion, rock, whatever. I used an SPX90 for chorusing or
slap-back and an Ibanez reverb unit for reverb and echo. When I wanted
to be in stereo I used a Pearce A1 power amp as well. It sounded great.
Around 1993 I told myself that I had to have an all-tube rig if I was
going to be getting true world-class tones and bought a Mesa Triaxis
that I ran in mono mostly through a Mesa Simul-Satellite powered cabinet.
I sold my G1 head to Reg Schwager but I kept the cabinet. The A1 went to
someone else.
I was never totally at home with the Triaxis but it did sound real good
and more professional than the Pearce for some kinds of things, just not
for jazz. So a few years ago I started thinking about using a Pearce
again. I found my current G2r online and started using it on all my jazz
gigs. It actually replaced a Claurs/RE-T8 rig that I had for a short
time for jazz. For what I do in jazz, the Pearce smokes the Clarus/RE rig.
After buying my Axe-FX in November '08 the Triaxis went out the door. I
still own the Satellite but I haven't even turned it on in months. I run
the AFX through an ART SLA1 power amp (in bridged mono-mode) into
another Pearce open back cab I copped that has an EVM-12L in it. Sounds
killer.
When I need stereo (which is never these days) I use the SLA1 in stereo
mode along with my Pearce combo amp's speaker, also an EVM-12L. Sounds
killer-er.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
