There was a guy named Zachary Breaux that did similar sounding stuff. Jazzy
rock songs with a clean tone...
You might try Larry Carlton. He plays bluesy, usually with a pop/rock
type rhythm section, but also knows how to play through changes -- very
well. Robben Ford is another guy who fits this bill.

I'd suggest checking out Ronnie Earl's last 2 or 3 CDs (Grateful Heart and
The Colour of Love in particular). Ronnie started out playing blues and is
now heavily into jazz.
As someone else mentioned, Jimi Hendrix was a giant influence on Stevie.
I've read about the many jams Hendrix did with jazz players (Miles Davis was
very interested in Hendrix) but I've never heard any recordings of those.
"Still Rainin', Still Dreamin'" from Electric Ladyland would give you a
taste of what it might have been like.
Finally, I've read that Stevie listened to Kenny Burrell quite a bit. Stevie
recorded some tracks that obviously bear this out.
Of course, there's a ton of other reasons for listening to all these guys,
especially Jimi and Kenny.
